QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Not sure if it's too early to call him one of the best QBs in the country, but he's already making throws most college QBs can't make, and is starting to hit those far hash outs that only Haskins and Lawrence could hit.

All this done before his 6th start and while as someone smartly said, he's still kind of a game manager. Can only imagine when they start running everything through him.

There are nits to pick and work to be done to keep improving, but he has been fantastic so far.

300 passing
50 running
3 passing tds
1 running td
1 turnover
Hands the baton to 2nd team midway through 4th

Damn interceptions gave JF short fields (umm... as it were), otherwise he would have had the 300 passing.

Missed on the TO as well.

It’s damn near impossible for me to conceive of a QB, at any level, with zero INTs and as many yards in the air as he has had through five games. Impressive.

I believed he would be good. I had no idea he'd be this good this soon.

I am torn between being impressed with Fields mental ability (I had zero doubt about his physical tools) and Day's coaching to move Fields along a season after we saw him do the exact same thing with Haskins.

and while I'm here; weekly PSA that this juggernaut team goes from title contender to something much less than that, instantly, if Fields gets hurt.

It's definitely optimistic to think that it will be better, but I don't think it's unreasonable. The 2018 offense put up 50 more yards but 11 fewer points than the 2017 offense. And both of those O's had QBs with deficiencies -- Barrett was a decent passer on a good day and Haskins was a meh runner on his best. Fields (assuming he is anywhere near as good as it sounds like he is) will not master the read-option like JTB did and certainly won't be the passer that Haskins was, but I'm of the admittedly scarlet-tinted opinion that the offense will be more well-rounded in 2019 resulting in similar or better numbers than the past two years.

Edit - and I think I've posted enough over the years for it to be known that I'm absolutely not one to (typically) blow sunshine out my ass off of hype.

OSU is averaging 536 yards per game this season. They averaged 536 last season, too.
