QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Take back everything I said before. We are grossly underselling the value of that.

"not only are you not a rival, but we'll take your future at QB without any effort upfront."

Oh how they would love that.

Make room for he and Solomon and I am highly likely to die from a priapism in the off season before I ever get to see Day rip their still beating hearts from their chests next fall.

Not relating this specifically to Fields at all, but this is the first time in years where I felt our incoming class was simply too small to get us to 85 in the fall. (Although who knows what surprises lie ahead.)

I wonder if OSU is consciously thinking of taking advantage of the more relaxed transfer rules.

I doubt UM would allow it, but there's no need to clear room. Their DT targets are not especially likely to join this class.

Not that there are any drumbeats of his interest, but the room is cleared for troll based transfer acquisitions

All I would need for my Schandfreude fix is the rumor or ask from the kid to transfer to OSU.

Some insider details - just the rumblings from our Athletic Department and what's come out since last night.

1). Transfer rules are different now. It's not a simple as fill out some paperwork and then you're gone. Fields has asked to have his name included in a NCAA approved transfer database. This allows anyone interested to reach to him and show interest. Justin (and his family) can then select who they want to speak with and a dialog can begin.

2). That said, if he doesn't like his options or doesn't think he's in a good position to succeed somewhere else, he doesn't have to leave and doesn't lose any eligibility if he stays at UGA.

3). His family has hired the same attorney that Shea Patterson hired that was successful in getting the NCAA to waive his "sit out year"

4). I admire how he's handling this. By all accounts, the young man did well in his grades his first semester at UGA and has been at practice all week. He intends to travel with the team and play in the Sugar Bowl. There doesn't seem to be any animosity here between he and the coaching staff. He just wants the chance to start and it seems like Jake Fromm is a four year player.

5). This is a wild trend:

FWIW - I think UGA would only block any SEC schools and Clemson. There is no reason to think we would prevent a transfer to any B1G school.
I'd mention the Antwuan Jackson scenario as a rebuttal, but I still don't really understand why Auburn did that.

In case you're not familiar with the reference, and there's no reason why you should be, Antwuan Jackson is a former Auburn DT who wanted to transfer out. Auburn blocked SEC schools, Clemson, a couple of other future non-conference opponents....and Ohio State. Jackson ended up at Ohio State via JUCO.

Agreed. Not cool if it happens. I'll rationalize it by laughing at Penn State....but I think we can win a ton of games with Martell while also sending a message to our own recruits and players. You commit to us, we'll commit to you.
It's uncool if there are promises made. Otherwise, it's not much different from signing him out of HS. They had Emory Jones for a long time.

The person it would blindside is Dwan Mathis, but again, if Fields were in HS and bailed on UGA a week before signing day, Day would probably take him in a heartbeat.

Players, rightfully so, have looked at this more and more as a business and are sitting out bowl games, transferring, etc.

It goes both ways.

It’s all part of the landscape today. You take Fields without hesitation and welcome some healthy competition for the position. If someone decomits or transfers it’s unfortunate but it’s just part of the game today.
