QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Players, rightfully so, have looked at this more and more as a business and are sitting out bowl games, transferring, etc.

It goes both ways.

It’s all part of the landscape today. You take Fields without hesitation and welcome some healthy competition for the position. If someone decomits or transfers it’s unfortunate but it’s just part of the game today.

IF Fields were to come to Ohio State, I could easily see a 2 QB system that would be closer in style of play than Martell/Haskins. I doubt either would want that but who knows.

I'm worried that it will hurt the locker room. Urban always talked about how hard Tate is working and how hard it is for him to sit, and now to have it ripped out from under him?

It's different if it's another kid we recruited out of high school who was just amazing. Just worried what the effects could be. And Fields hasn't really proven anything yet, we don't know if he is any better than Tate.

I cannot imagine a situation where Fields would be handed the job. I would have to imagine it would be an open competition, and if Fields isn't any better than Tate, then I would think the better kid would play.

I still think it's all moot, because OU has two straight Heisman winners at the position and no clear choice next year. If he wants a clear path to playing time, it's probably in Norman.

If Fields wants in you take him. Quincy Avery raved about his football IQ, and of course after working with Haskins this summer and seeing him take-off Avery is enamored with Ryan Day.

https://uga.rivals.com/news/qb-guru-gives-thoughts-on-justin-fields-training-with-deshaun-watson

Fields has been compared to Watson—a comparison Avery finds difficult to make, even in recalling when the latter just came out of Gainesville (Ga.) High School and was entering Clemson as a freshman.

“They’re both tremendously skilled—that’s obvious,” Avery said. “But I wouldn’t compare the two as quarterbacks. I wouldn’t even say they remind me of one another. They’re just on completely different levels.”

According to Avery, what separates Fields amongst his peers is “what’s above the neck more than anything”—an attribute the trainer observed as a Core Coach when Fields was named MVP in 2017 of the Elite 11, a premier annual competition for high school quarterbacks throughout the nation.

“The information we loaded up those [quarterbacks at the Elite 11] with, like an NFL playbook, we made it difficult for them. But, I’d never seen someone more prepared to do the things we wanted them to do, and at such a high level, than Justin did,” Avery said. “He not only has the ability to throw the ball and drive the ball, but he can throw the ball with much anticipation—and to do all those things, that’s not something you see from an 18-year-old.”

This article is a bit dated citing Deshaun Watson as Avery's most distinguished protege, Avery also tutored Patrick Mahomes.

Not so quiet rumor amongst the Dawg boards is Southern Cal.

Their current Freshman QB is nothing amazing (or something that would block Justin from starting) and working with their new OC who basically taught Pat Mahomes how to play QB.

Would make since w/ Kingsbury as the new OC. Would be the only thing USC could do to make them interesting in 2019 (assuming he gets cleared, which I expect). How sad it has gotten for USC.
