Justin Fields compares favorably to Patrick Mahomes in one area
On the Pat McAfee Show, Sanchez was asked about Fields’ ability to handle the mental side of the game. In his conversations with one sports psychologist, Sanchez found out about an aptitude test that thousands of pro athletes, including Fields, have taken in recent years.
“This guy Dr. Goldman, he’s a sports psychologist,” Sanchez said. “I talked to him yesterday. He has some interesting information on how he evaluates players. All players from all sports. Since 2012, this guy has interviewed and given what’s basically a mental aptitude test on an iPad to 6,500 professional athletes. Not just your average Joe walking down the street. These are ballers. They have a learning efficiency rating on there. It’s basically like this acquisition — like how many reps does it take until you get it or until you understand something? Then, your recall. Once you have it, can you bring it back and use it? That’s basically what they’re trying to figure out in one part of this test.”
According to Sanchez, Fields’ score was off the charts and compares very favorably with other top quarterbacks in the NFL. When it comes to Fields’ ability to learn a playbook and make the correct reads, there shouldn’t be much doubt.

“Justin Fields, the guy who supposedly can’t go through his reads, doesn’t have great work ethic, and all this bogus stuff, he scored the highest ever,” Sanchez said. “He scored the highest they can rank him. He scored a 130 on it. [Patrick] Mahomes was like a 108. Josh Allen was like a 108. Over 100 is good. Bro, he was at 130. This kid can learn. Essentially, it would equate to like, an average play book that’s not that complicated, he’d learn it faster than anybody. A very complicated playbook, to him it would be like an average playbook. This kid was in the top one percent of 6,500 pro athletes.
This kid is bright.”
