QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

With the hiring of Yurcich plus Day as HC, I see this as a golden opportunity for Fields if he comes to Columbus. Haskins is sure to be moving on, should be able to thrive in this kind of offense with the skill players available. Dobbins and Teague should be a solid duo in the backfield. Hope to see him come in and have some really good competition between Baldwin and Martell. I think Tate transfers the moment Fields comes in if it happens but if so then so be it. I want competitors.
There is zero reason for Tate to immediately transfer if this happens. At a minimum he would likely compete in spring and see how it shakes out. But who knows.

On the flip side, Joe Burrow has shown him that there is a pretty successful avenue at another large school if it's clearly not going your way.
Kids will claim hardship for anything, he could probably start at WVU or some other mid tier P5 school.

Agreed but why "transfer immediately" before even having a competition for the job during spring?
Will probably depend where he is towards getting his degree. Joey B stuck around through spring ball in order to graduate so he could transfer with immediate eligibility. If Tate is in a comparable situation, and he elects to transfer (which I personally do not believe he will), he would not have to rely on the ever-increasingly-unpredictable NCAA to grant him immediate eligibility.

I'm astounded by the apparent assumption that Tate Martell isn't a competitor. Does anyone have the over/under on Ohio State wins next season at less than 12 if Tate is the QB? I don't. I'd like to get Fields in case Tate gets hurt, and also, if he can beat out Tate, because he'd then have shown himself to be a helluva player, but I'm more than comfortable rolling with Tate as the starter for the next 2-3 years. This assumption that a guy who couldn't beat out Jake Fromm is automatically going to intimidate and beat out Tate Martell just because recruitniks had him very highly rated is insanity.

I agree that it's Tate's job to lose. He has been in the system for 2 years. He has worked with the young WR's with the 2's during practice, he was a winner in HS, and has the mobility / escapability rarely seen at QB. The passing will continue to improve with more reps with the 1's. However it shakes out, I don't see QB being an issue with all the talent they'll have surrounding them to help them succeed.

I read this somewhere as well, though I find it hard to imagine he did 4 years of school work in two. Not impossible, but... :yow1:

Was he an early enrollee? If he started early and went full time is summers that would make it more feasible. It also depends on the major.

I just hope this QB question is answered soon.
