“Just playing with my teammates and grinding every day with Coach (Mickey Marotti) during workouts and playing, that’s what I'm cherishing the most right now and really just looking forward to the season,” Fields said. “I’m just trying to stay as optimistic as possible right now. But, really, to opting out, I can see where those guys are coming from, but I necessarily haven’t really thought of it yet.”

“To be honest, I don't really care when we play The Team Up North,” Fields said on Tuesday afternoon. “I just want to play them and, my answer is simple, really just beat the brakes off them, for real. That's all I have to say.”

TELECONFERENCE BULLETS: OHIO STATE’S SEVEN TEAM CAPTAINS TALK ABOUT LEADERSHIP, PREPARING FOR AN UNPRECEDENTED SEASON, STAYING SAFE DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

JUSTIN FIELDS
  • Fields said he can see where the players who are opting out are coming from, but said he hasn't thought about it much yet. Mentions he comes from a stable situation financially, so being able to make money sooner isn't a big consideration for him.
  • “Getting to the money as fast as I can isn’t really a priority for me,” Fields said. “Grinding with my team and Coach (Mickey Marotti) is what I’m cherishing the most right now. So just working with them. I’m just trying to stay as optimistic as possible. Opting out, I can see where those guys are coming from, but I haven’t really thought of that.”
  • Fields said there have been some players around the Big Ten have been talking about potentially doing something like the Pac-12 players have done, but that those talks haven't gotten serious yet.
  • “I want to show everybody that I'm the best quarterback in the nation,” Fields said. “Of course I want to win the Heisman, but the team comes first, so if none of that happens, I'll be fine with winning a national championship.”
  • Fields on the Ohio State/Michigan game potentially being moved up: “To be honest, I don't really care when we play the team up north. I just want to play them.” Fields and Wyatt Davis both said Ohio State are going to “beat the brakes off them.”
  • Fields says he has had conversations with his parents about the season and that “they just put me in the driver’s seat for this situation. They know what’s best for me, and they trust me that i’m gonna make the best decision for myself. With everything going on here, all of our players feel safe at Ohio State with resuming training and workouts. The big question is what are other schools doing? My parents feel comfortable with resuming everything.”

I watched every 3rd down play for the offense thread and broke down statistical trends; that was just me staying in my lane.

Here is an NFL qb breaking down film on Justin's game. I think his stuff is related to some of the trends I noticed, but it is MUCH more interesting.

The guy in the video talks a lot about how good the scheme is too; I'm sure that's part of why Justin was able to put up such crazy numbers in spite of the areas he can improve on. If he hadn't been preceded by Dwayne Haskins, this is a guy who'd own the Ohio State single season record book. So just like in the offense thread following my analysis, what you're left with is a sense that, if the holes are plugged, what's coming might be historic, once in a lifetime stuff.

EDIT: On this guy's patreon page he goes over the whole game and it is CRAZY how dirty some of the Nebraska defense played. Lots of punches thrown after the whistle. It's amazing how the Buckeyes were able to keep their composure.

“Team-wise, we want to first start off with beating the team up north and winning a Big Ten championship, then we want to go on to win the first playoff game and win the national championship,” Fields said. “Personally, I want to show everybody that I’m the best quarterback in the nation. Of course I want to win the Heisman and do all that stuff, but the team comes first, so if none of that happens, I’m fine with the national championship trophy sitting in the front of the Woody.”

“I think we all see the opportunity we have on the table in terms of coming back and being able to play and compete for a national championship,” Fields said. “So kind of just seeing the opportunity we have right now has just made us work so much harder this offseason. Me personally, I’ve been working like crazy this offseason. I’ve totally switched up my diet and stuff like that. Just doing the little things and kind of just doing as much as possible just to become a better player each and every day. So I feel great right now. My body feels great. And I’m ready to go.”

Ohio State: Justin Fields, QB

Finally, an upperclassman, Fields absolutely shredded defenses in 2019, racking up 3,273 yards through the air with 41 touchdown passes and all of three picks. In addition, he torched the opposition on the ground with 484 yards and 10 scores. What should be concerning for those facing the Buckeyes this year is Ryan Day feels that his starting quarterback can reach even greater heights. With the level of talent surrounding him yet again, it's hard to argue the potential for yet another Heisman bid.
