Meh, he's only an hour away from where Bryce Young played. He'll adjust as long as they winThis kid will find Tuscaloosa to be a very different kind of place from Carlsbad.
Just sayin': I came here to comment that tooScript's favorite recruit ever.
One of the reasons Saban was successful is he recruited the best, and expected the cream to flow to the top. There was no loyalty in that program, other than to win and be the best player and team.I can understand where Birmis coming from, and I respectfully disagree. Day is at a point where he NEEDS to win the The Game in 2024, as well as win the B1G. CFB is at a point now where coaches have to worry about winning on a yearly basis more than ever, because they could lose a number of guys(expected or unexpected) in the off season. Day needs to stack as much talent as possible, and be ready to play some to get reps next year, and Id prefer Sayin in Columbus over LA.
But Birm brings up a good point that coaches also need to balance a culture of being loyal, as that may be what keeps some kids from entering the Portal prematurely or choosing elsewhere. Problem I see in that logic, is that at this point there’s too much uncertainty in the sport to just assume a kid will be loyal to you because you’re loyal to him. This is a move that would separate Saban from the rest, because teams need to be run as businesses now. Loyalty is still part of the equation, but if you have the chances you bring in the best players. If that means someone leaves, then you have to weigh that decision. I can see Brown leaving anyway, but that’s more due to Howard. I can see Kienholz and Noland making business decisions the year after. And the best will play, and I don’t care if thats any of the 3, just want it to be the guy who can keep OSU on the path to beating TSUN and keeping OSU in the NC conversation
The fact that you said that Saban had been operating like this, shows that CFB had already been like this, it’s just more wild now and everyone does it above board. One of the reasons Saban was successful is he recruited the best, and expected the cream to flow to the top. With that, I have concerns with that approach and tossing Noland into the fire.
And with that, CFB is now professional sports. Kids transfer without a care.
Excellently stated. I’m coming around to what you’re saying with the pursuit of Sayin. The fact that you said that Saban had been operating like this, shows that CFB had already been like this, it’s just more wild now and everyone does it above board.
Noland isn’t getting tossed into the fire, ImO. He’s being asked to compete against another QB. Neither Sayin or Noland were going to start in ‘24, so next year is a learning year and hopefully be able to see what they can do in garbage time.
There was a line in the sand after the loss to scUM, and that line was cut deeper after the loss to Mizzou. I’m sure you’d have more concerns if Day stood pat and didn’t entertain bringing in Sayin(or any other future transfers who could upset the Apple cart). I don’t want to feel again how I felt when the season ended for OSU, 2 consecutive losses, a 3rd straight loss to scUM, and then watch them win the NC. I want the best players in the country every year, and at every position. And if that upsets a current player, then there’s the door. Play the best, and who wants to stay, fall in line and let the next man replace him when he’s gone. OSU now has an AD that knows the power of utilizing NIL, and the collectives(at least one publicly) seem to be stepping up in a big way to support Bjork and Day
