QB Joe Germaine (Rose Bowl MVP, B1G OPOY, B1G MVP)

Joe Germaine Interview

On the way out of town on Friday, I caught Kenny Rhoda (WKNR – Cleveland) interviewing Joe Germaine. It was a great interview and Germaine was pretty candid in response to questions about the two-headed monster of he and Jackson. Rhoda was discussing it in relation to Zwick and Smith.

Among other things, Germaine said:

>It was extremely difficult for both QBs for many reasons. Not the least of which was that they were both always looking over their shoulders.

>That it was difficult for the other players on offense trying to constantly adjust to the different qb’s. - everything from leadership abilities to style of play to snap count.

>He wishes Cooper would have picked one qb and stuck with him, whoever it was.

>That there was division about who should run the two-minute offense against ASU in the Rose Bowl. Finally Walt Harris called down from the booth and said it has to be Germaine.

I guess the last one is the most surprising to me. I can’t imagine why Cooper, or anyone, would have wanted Jackson to run that two-minute drill. It makes you wonder what would have happened if Jackson had been asked to win that game.

Last season I heard an interview with Cooper where he admitted that the two QB system was a mistake that may have cost him an NC.

He went on to say that an iceberg may have sunk the Titanic and that Liberaci may have been gay.
