QB Joe Burrow (transfer to LSU, 2019 Heisman Winner, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

As much as I love them because they were and will always be Buckeyes, but how would you classify QBs: Kenny Guiton, Taylor Graham, Joe BausermAn, Rob Schoenhoft, Craig Krenzel, Antonio Henton? And numerous more could be named, let's not act like because they were offered by and commit to OSU tht they're an all American. We get many average to above average guys. As long as he can help us win games, that's all that matters, but Burrows will be providing good depth, IMO, as opposed to guys like Waller or Jones who would/could win us many ball games as starters. Heck, calling him Alex Smith 2.0, is stating that he's average, lol. Smith is good at many things but not great at anything, and that's been known throughout his NFL career. If he can be anything close to him and work that hard, then we have a special guy, but his battle will be more uphill than Jones and Waller'S.
Thank you for making one of my points for me by using an NFL quarterback as a comparison. Burrow is currently a HS quarterback. You have stated multiple times he is an average (HS) quarterback. How many average HS QB's even get major college offers? None? He is well above average for a HS quarterback or tOSU would not have offered him. Does that mean he will ever start at tOSU? No. But if he were an average HS quarterback, you should be able to pick 100 HS quarterbacks at random, and approximately 50 of them will be better than him. Or if he's above average, approximately 35 of those randomly chosen QBs would be better than him. Do you really think that's the case? He has worked hard, become a very good to great HS QB, and earned the offer he wanted. He should be congratulated for his accomplishments. Whether his skill set and work ethic translates to success at tOSU has yet to be determined. But to call him an average to above average HS QB is ridiculous.

I think the point he is trying to make (albeit poorly) is that Burrow is average (in his opinion) as far as QBs offered by tOSU.

Glad to have a QB on board to help with recruiting. This weekend should be important as well.

It's much easier to look at a junior RB and forecast his future into college.

It's much different to do the same for QB's. I obviously won't sit here and list all the 3* guys who have boomed and the 5*'s who have crashed, we all know that. But QB forecasting has more variables than other positions as far as consistency of the offensive staff, fitting into the scheme, physical maturation, mechanical adjustments, dedication to film and technique, leadership, etc. It doesn't make any sense at this point to call someone a "depth" guy. You don't get offered at this point in the process by OSU and get called that. Even in situations where I would find it more applicable, i.e. Guiton's offer, look at how that "depth" offer went for us.

3 years from now we'll know how Burrow is developing but he has far more potential than some are giving him credit for and I've seen enough 4*'s from Scout & 247 (their rating, not the composite) to see that others agree and that should help ease the calm of some star gazers.

Recruiting message boards are where I go to find bonafide talent evaluators.

Piggybacking off of what has already been said (I am not going to quote everyone), I will say that I do not think Burrows would have his offer this early if we were not taking 2 QB's for sure. Before jumping all over me, read the second part of my post where I say that because we are taking 2, I love the commitment. Why do I say this? There are many flaws to his game (albeit not glaring) that may not be overcome with training and development (see my original film review)...there is a reason other QB's are ranked above him at this juncture. I do not think Burrows is a guy that will be ready to play in the first couple years. The import of that is that the same can be said for Collier, who was our only QB last year. Both guys have a lot to like, but we need a more game-ready QB to compete with them and not put all of our eggs in the Jones/Barrett basket (although I like what I see from both).

But here is why I like it: He has a lot of characteristics that could make him extremely productive in our system and I see that. Those characteristics, combined with hard work and some extensive development, could very well put him over the top to beat out any Waller/Gibson/etc. QB that could end up in this class. I really like this commitment because it gives us a leader in this class to get us on track, we get an Ohio QB that wanted to be a Buckeye immediately, and a guy that will work his tail off to make his mark here and challenge any other QB we take in 2015. I do not think he is a "depth" guy and I think the coaches see him competing down the road. However, we will need one other QB to make the competition work.

This was the point I was trying to make. Maybe worded it wwrong, but oh well.

Per Tim May during a segment yesterday on the Fan with Rothman. He was very impressed with Burrow. Tim thinks that Joey can make all the throws and showed good arm strength and showed why Ohio State had wanted him on the team.

My take. Urban wants quality QB's and not just a couple of them on his team. I certainly believe that Joey helps fortify the QB position. Whether he starts or not will be decided in competition against the other QB's Meyer and Herman bring into the system. I think he is a good get and I wish Joey the best of luck.
