QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

Pass pro was solid today save for the series Jones and Knox went out. I blame this more on the defense than the offense.
Eh there is enough to go around for everything but special teams. Offense handed them the 14 points for their lead in the first half. Defense showed up the 2 drives to start the 3rd quarter. The offense then decided to not come out of the locker room and finally then it looked like the defense after seeing the offense fail miserably twice decided to take it's ball and go home.

JT made throws last week that he couldn't tonight. May be he felt confident that he could put it in the "shoebox" again tonight...and it didn't work out well for him.

I felt that Iowa's offensive line did very well against our DL and therefore provided their QB plenty of time to throw...and he did! He did to us what JT did to PS last week. I wish there was more stunts instead of just relying one-on-one against their OL. This is why Bosa got frustrated as he was unable to get to their QB even working so hard to get there.

Still love my Bucks...regroup and get ready for €ichigan St and win the East division!!

I'd have to go back and watch the plays again, but was he even under that much pressure when he threw the INTs? I just remember him forcing throws rather than being under pressure.
I'm with you 100% on a that. This was a strange game for Barrett-his usual mistakes focus around conservative judgment and he often pumps and pumps seemingly waiting for an impossibly open resiver. PSU seemed to give him false confidence-like he could actually fit it into tight corners.....didn't work well

JT Barrett will play his last game for Ohio State in a stadium away from Columbus and leave behind the most impressive set of statistical accomplishments of any quarterback in Ohio State history. He is a case study in persistence and courage and has come back from tremendous lows in his career. So, it is tragic that he has one of the poorest performances in the history of an Ohio State quarterback yesterday.

The question now is, will he leave behind a legacy as Ohio State's best quarterback ever or something else? He and his coaches will be doing some soul searching this week as they try to learn from the Iowa game and put it behind them.

I think he will do well to ask himself three questions.

  • First and foremost, did he make the mistake of listening to outside voices again yesterday? He was forcing balls into double coverage that pro quarterbacks would not have made, trying to make up for the opening interception, and he made himself vulnerable. He mentioned last week about not listening to outside voices and played his game. The Heisman talk and the unbelievable performance in the 4th quarter last week convinced him that he could make plays that he could not make. There is much to be learned from that.
  • What leadership legacy does he hope to leave behind? Ohio State is not going to win the national championship. He is not going to win the Heisman and he never was. He is not the top quarterback in college football. In fact, his last game at Ohio State is most likely to be the last he ever plays as a starting quarterback. So, what? No one can take the accomplishments above away from him. He can still lead the team to the B1G championship and a New Year's bowl victory. He can still lift this team back up, motivate them to be disciplined, and lead them forward. He can add to his legacy and be an example of persistence and courage for many years to come. That legacy can add millions to his career earnings outside football.
  • Does he remember what it's like to have fun? The pressure is off. This team can destroy the remaining teams on the schedule. They will all enter the game against Ohio State believing that they can win. Barrett and his team have the best chance of winning if they play within themselves, taking pride in their disciplined approach and having fun enjoying the fruits of their labors.

This season is not over but at least two goals are beyond reach. He will probably never play quarterback in the NFL. Right now, that must feel pretty bad to him, but it would be wrong to dwell in that.
He has the chance to cement his legacy in the pantheon of Ohio State quarterbacks. I personally believe that he can do it.

Not his best game last night, but JT is not the reason Iowa put up 54 points on us.

Lots of blame to go around, for sure. That may have been the worst defensive performance under Urban; it certainly was the worst I remember (e.g., way worse than 31-0 against Clemson). But, man, the last thing you need against a rabid crowd on the road is for your QB to throw a pick six on the first play of the game. And on a crummy 5-yard hook pattern, no less. That play's all risk and no reward.

Not his best game last night, but JT is not the reason Iowa put up 54 points on us.
14 of those points were earned through 20 yards of offense from Iowa, thanks to the two first half interceptions.

Obviously there is plenty of blame to go around, but the first INT was a stab in the kidney, Gladiator style, and the second INT was a stab in the heart.

No first downs on the first three drives of the second half and two more INTs also contributed to the overall lack of effort from the defense later in the game, it’s fair to say.

The defense, and especially the linebackers, played terrible all day. The INT before the half was incredibly ill advised and killed the team.

Barrett played out of his mind against PSU. I couldn’t find a picture I liked to illustrate, but regression toward the mean kicked us in the balls real hard yesterday.
