QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I guess it's being military that makes me favor additional duties as punishment, rather than taking stuff away. If someone gets in trouble, I'm not going to send my troop home and let him out of work to go goof off. He/she will continue her shift, receive paperwork, anf also receive additonal taskings at the squadron where we have eyes on him/her (depending upon the severity of the problem).

Saying "go hang out with friends while your team goes to work" is easy. Being forced to watch the excitement is hard.

I don't have a strong opinion on either side of this, but doesn't the bold oversimplify the array of options here? In other words, it's not like there are only two options here--either JT watches in the press box or goofs off with his friends. Wouldn't a middle ground be to have JT stay engaged by watching the game with OSU personnel at the WHAC?

I think an OVI typically consists of 6 months suspended license, around $1000 in fines and fees, and the 3 day class. This sounds about standard.

What JT got is very much the standard sentence for OVI. 6 months all suspended of jail time, 6 months of drivers license suspension and $400 plus court cost is the norm. Then he will have to pay $425 or more to get you license reinstated. That is exactly what a friend of mine got about 2 months ago for his OVI.

That tweet doesn't state the full punishment.
It mentioned the $400 fine and 6-month suspension. The only thing it left out was the 3-day class. The class is likely the only set-in-concrete thing of the three, whilst the other two can vary in severity, so that's like why it wasn't mentioned because it was a given.

Big difference between $400 and $1,000 for a college kid.

I think a whole lot of people care way too much about whether the little boy who talked back in class got enough strokes from the paddle.
No, "a whole lot of people" are concerned whether or not JT is getting preferential treatment, and the resulting media blowback and potential distractions.

If what JT got is the "norm", then cool.

Or, like people who drive the speed limit in the left lane because they think every one should just do the speed limit............goddamn it now I got myself started on left laners

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett entered a guilty plea on Tuesday to his drunken-driving charge.

Barrett was charged with OVI and "backing without safety" when stopped at a Columbus Police checkpoint on Oct. 31.

The "backing without safety" charge was dismissed on Tuesday.

"I just want to apologize to my family, the Ohio State football program and Buckeye nation," Barrett said in a brief statement during his hearing.
