The last I checked, JT wasn't pulled over in Hawaii. In other words, if JT got what is the "norm" in central Ohio (you know, where he actually was pulled over) as several posters have said here, your claim that JT received "a pretty light punishment...really light, in fact" such that you wondered if the judge said "Go Bucks" was both uninformed and flat wrong.
I believe the judge said "O-H" lol

I don't know what the "standard" is in 2015. And maybe this isn't standard for 2002, but a buddy got a DUI in 2002 and on top of the fine (I don't know if he told me how much it was) and the suspension (6 months, from what I remember), he had to serve 3 days in "prison". It wasn't the pound-you-in-the-ass prison, but he had to serve 3 days, anyway. He got to choose when to serve it (I'm sure he had a time frame), so he was able to call off work to plan it. He seemed to think that was pretty standard. Maybe he had a crappy lawyer, though - I don't know.

He probably had the option of the 3 day alcohol class or 3 days in county.

Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett tried to go the Reese Witherspoon route during his drunk driving arrest -- asking the officer for special treatment because, "I'm the quarterback of Ohio State!"

TMZ Sports obtained the dash cam footage from the October 31 incident -- in which you can clearly see Barrett's SUV pull out of a line for an upcoming DUI checkpoint ... catching the attention of an officer who pulled him over.

During the stop, the officer says he could smell booze on Barrett's breath -- though J.T. insists he had NOTHING to drink that night.

Barrett is given several field sobriety tests -- and does fairly well -- but the cop is not convinced he's 100% sober and arrests him.

That's when Barrett plays the "don't you know who I am?" card ... saying, "I'm the quarterback of Ohio State ... officer, there's nothing you can do?"

The officer responds, "My intention is to not take you to jail. That's about the best I can do for you."

Once Barrett sits in the back seat of the cruiser, he begins to scream obscenities to himself ... "F**K!!! F**K!!!"

Eventually, he tells cops that fellow OSU quarterback Cardale Jones will be picking him up ... and the officers find that amusing.

Earlier this week, Barrett pled guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence and his license was suspended for 180 days.

No respect for places like TMZ. They thrive on ruining people as does most media I suppose but TMZ particularly does

No respect for places like TMZ. They thrive on ruining people as does most media I suppose but TMZ particularly does

Their problem is that they typically undercut themselves by "breaking" the footage they are trying to spin.

Anybody that watches this video hears exactly what DID happen and it's not even close to the way TMZ tried to spin it, but of course over half of the people who read/see the article aren't getting past the headline or the pointed synopsis. The difference between a belligerent "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!" and JT's worried "I've got status, can't you help me?" is worth noting. I'm also not buying that the cops got a laugh out of who was picking him up, or that he was screaming obscenities in the back of the squad car.

Not excusing the attempt at skirting the law by claiming to be above it, but I hate the representation this article is giving the situation.
