QB Devin "Utah" Brown (Transfer to ???)

Conversely, if McCord is so fragile that he will check out or freak out if Brown is given 50% of the snaps in game 1, then perhaps McCord isn’t cut out for QB1 at OSU.

Day owes Brown an equal shot since he said they were basically equal…….or damn close to it.

I just wish Day would be up front rather try to be the smartest guy in the room. He isn’t.
Day said he went into the game wanting Brown to get more playing time, but McCord was just starting to establish a rhythm and didn't want to take him out. That isn't dishonesty, it is smart game management and doing what is best for the team in the moment. And let's face it, we were in a dogfight for most of the game...if we were in control come 2nd quarter, the PT is likely split about equally. Now if we are throttling YSU and it doesn't happen, I will sing a different tune, though I don't want an every other drive scenario because a QB needs 2-3 consecutive drives to really give you an idea of what they can do and to have a fair chance.

Day isn’t the smartest in this room?

Im of the opinion "neck and neck" was all a smoke and mirror show. For whose benefit, im not sure. Locker room? Other coaches? Keep both of them involved?

If they're truly tied, is there any reason Brown isn't named starter this week?

I dont have a particular opinion about either QBs abilities. But based on the one game we have, Day only gave McCord a shot with the playbook.
So my assumption is that Day is blowing smoke until he proves me wrong. He has a strong preference for one over the other.

People doubting Day are hilarious

Tied with Kirby for 2nd best win % for coaches with at least 50 games and he’s taken how many QBs to New York now?

…but armchair guys know better

Yeah, ok.
OSU fans also wanted Tressel fired after losing 2 NCs. Forgetting the fact that he dominated scUM and won the B1G pretty much every season. Always remember that fan is short for fanatic. And fans will turn in a heartbeat on any player and certainly any coach.

But Day hasn’t dominated tsun, hasn’t won any NC’s and hasn’t even won the B1G for 2 years in a row so how does Tressel’s situation mean anything other than as the obvious straw man?

As far as types of fans remember, there is always the group who thinks everything is fine and coaches are beyond reproach as well. I saw people defending Cooper up to his last day and for more recent examples go to Studwara’s thread. This exact same argument played out like it has a million times before. A certain segment didn’t want to hear that an OSU coach wasn’t recruiting well enough while the current OL was good. The most common refrains were this same kind of “everyone calm down, coaches know best, this fan base is toxic etc etc etc” tripe.

Every OSU head coach but Meyer has been fired. Day will be too and it isn’t because some fans are nuts while others are perfectly calm, cool, collected and all seeing.

I think Day is a great coach but I don't think it is unfair to criticize him on his handling of McCord. What I am mostly critical of is McCord's lack of playing time in garbage time last year. Last year at Iowa, it was 47 to 10 with 11:27 left in the 4th quarter. I don't think anyone would think that Iowa would come back in that game. Day runs out Stroud again. McCord comes in with 5:37 left. He got about 5 plays. It is not that he had a lack of experience because he had a start against Akron. Other than trying to pad Stroud's numbers, why would he not want his future QB to get more game time reps?

*This probably belongs in the Ryan Day section

I hope it's Devin *really* wasn't neck and neck coming out of fall because if that's his expert in-game management we are in deep shit boys  Don't worry guys: everything will be fixed this week and next, and then we will be lulled to sleep per standard operating procedure until the end of November, and then after that wake up call we play real teams in January. First you'll laugh, then you'll cope. Tale as old time.

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of Kirk Herbstreit, it is time to pause and reflect."

Ryan Day is the best runner-up though, I will give you that, lots of playoff and NY trips guys

The good ole days: when you could actually trust the coaches. I used to laugh at the people who wanted Tressel gone, too. The two aren't comparable other than title of Head Coach.

Wanna put some money on that “Day will be fired prediction” ??

I’m your Huckleberry.
