QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

OK, I'll spell it out

I think there's a good chance that the Buckeyes are going to take the #3 scoring defense and do to it what they did to Toledo's passing defense numbers.

If you want to tell me you already expected that, that's fine. But I haven't seen anyone say anything like it here.

Truthfully, this is the times when I miss Jax the most. Because if he were still here I know he would accuse me of sniffing paint.

I mean, checks and balances, amiright? otherwise you already know i'm your huckleberry. Statement is mild as a descriptive word for what's going to happen this week. I honestly think all Buckeyes our age, no offense to you young people, respect the hell out of Iowa because they play the way we love to play just with less overall talent. We've always been a group that loves to punch the opponent in the mouth and run it down their throats. Well, guess what? I think Day see's the light tomorrow and runs to set up the pass an after we gash them early those safeties that "never rush up fast" are going to start stressing and get beat deep later on. At least that's my dream scenario for tomorrow.
From all accounts it's about confusing their safeties and staying away from Campbell because he's the real deal. Well, he cant cover any of our top 4 WR's so watch us get him out of position and cross the hell out of Iowa in the passing game after we pound em. Keep an eye on Dawand this week, he could kill a man.

What CJ and the rest of the offense are accomplishing this year is unique in Ohio State history.

The shift away from QB's who were better runners than passers, or at least their abilities could be considered 50/50, has been pretty glaring since Braxton Miller. That Sparty game, the one we don't like talking about, was a real eye opener.

Instead we see coaches (Day) placing emphasis on passers with mobility. I would loved to have seen what Troy would have done in this offense.

As for what the Bucks might do to Iowa? I confess I haven't watched much of them this season. But if it's that 'tough', 'gritty', zone heavy Hawks defense but lacks an elite pass rush, C.J. could cement a strong Heisman leading man push
by going bombs away today. Or at least playing incredibly efficient and methodical. People love numbers, and smoking a top 10 ranked defense through the air will have pundits talking.

Hooker had about 290 yards passing and 3 tds and no ints today, and 20 yards rushing. So as far as heisman stats go CJ gained a TD on Hooker. Not bad.
And Hooker was playing a school that was apparently named after the Vols last QB to win the Natty - U Tee Martin.

I'm pretty sure that I've pointed this out elsewhere.
I'm pretty sure others have pointed this out elsewhere.

It bears repeating anyway.

All quarterbacks to face Iowa through their first 12 halves of football this year:

3 TD Passes - Combined (congrats to McCarthy for getting 1 of them)
CJ Stroud in the 2nd half against Iowa last Saturday:

4 TD Passes

Stroud’s Passing Efficiency FBS Rankings

Overall: #1

1st qtr: #2
2nd qtr: #11
3rd qtr: #5
4th qtr: insufficient attempts

1st dn: #24
2nd dn: #8
3rd dn: #1 by > 65 points
4th dn: insufficient attempts

Gap between CJ and #2 in 3rd down PE is over 65 points, nationally.

In the B1G, the gap between CJ and #2 is over 125 points.

Both of those are beyond ridiculous, 6 games into the season.

Though it's been 19 days since the above post, CJ and company have only played one game in that time. Much of the rest of college football played two though, so there's been some movement in the rankings...

Overall PE Ranking:

1st - 203.85

PE Ranking By Quarter:

1st: 1 (213.96)
2nd: 20 (174.55) - There's that 2nd quarter again
3rd: 5 (239.97)
4th: 1 (250.21)

PE Ranking By Down:

1st: 13 (189.62)
2nd: 14 (178.26)
3rd: 1 (267.07)
4th: 4 (378.80)

I think he played really well today, better than the stats indicated. Although I guess he got 350 yards, just not TDs.

Really hoping Day and Wilson are willing to let him rip it more in big games later this year. The passing game is the biggest advantage OSU has.

Our passing game should be able to open up the run game. And for those who wanted CJ to run more, he showed that he’s not afraid to. He’s so efficient and smooth, but doesn’t have an actual “Heisman moment” yet. I’m sure he’ll get chances a plenty against scUM

I’ve written a piece for the front page. While better minds than mine edit it, I can’t help but share a nugget from it.

Stroud’s Differential Passing Efficiency (DPE) against PSU was 1.740.

Not his best effort, but…

The other quarterbacks in the top 5 in pass efficiency PLUs JJ McCarthy (13th) have combined for a grand total of just 4 games with a DPE higher than that this year.

The best 4 QBs in the country and the best in the B1G (not named Stroud) COMBINED for four games better than Stroud’s off-day against the Lions.

But don’t be too hard on the people who were calling it an off-day for him.

CJ has had 4 games with a better DPE HIMSELF.

Put another way:

The top 5 QBs in college football plus JJ McCarthy have combined for 8 games better than Stroud’s game vs the Lions. Stroud has posted half of those by himself, in 4 of his 7 other games. The other 5 have played 3 dozen games against FBS opponents, but have only managed 4 of their own combined.

Hooker is the flavor of the month
Hooker is clearly the second best passer in America
That does not mean Hooker is meaningfully close to CJ when you compare them objectively

Your posts should be mandatory reading for Heisman voters. Your vote doesn't count unless you've read DBB's analysis.
Unfortunately, voters vote with heart and "eye tests". Stroud didn't beat Alabama. Stroud threw that pick-6 against Sparty, and the sack-6 against Iowa. Stroud gave up the 3 touchdown drives to Penn State and then I hear he pushed some nuns into a burning orphanage, while stealing bus fare from war widows.

The Narative I find most amusing and maddening at the same time is. CJ throw to wide open guys....

Yet Hooker who you are saying should pass him. Made his Hiesman run throwing to wide the fuck open Hyatt. Is that good scheme yes? But any of the top 20-30 QBs in college football should have similar numbers to him with people that wide fucking open.

Looked to me like CJ was throwing to receivers that were NFL-open on Saturday

NFL-open means open to an NFL-level qb but not to anyone else. Many of CJ’s throws were dimes that would have been incomplete at best if they were anything less
