CJ Stroud for Heisman
Even though the last four games of 2021 shouldn't count in the Heisman voting; it is still an interesting comparison.
All without the best WR in the country. It's incredible what this offense can potentially do if they get healthy. Not to dwell on it too much, but Justin Fields' PE on 3rd down plummeted from 2019 to 2020 because the book was out on him: he didn't handle the blitz all that well. Not bashing, just stating a fact.
In 2021, CJ Stroud was #8 in PE on 3rd Down at 183.00.
So far in 2022 he is #1 at 276.60.
Part of the reason for the rise is because he is facing more blitzes on 3rd down, and he's murdering them.
So... Opposing DCs... NOW what are ya gonna do?
And if he played more than 2 complete games per season need smash it. How hard would this numbers be to factor in that he doesn't play to games? At this point in the season last year, Stroud's PE was 162.665, 26th in the country.
His PE the rest of the way was 193.661, which brought him up to 186.562 for a #2 finish on the year.
After September this year, Stroud sits at #2 with a PE of 207.54 behind Max Duggan of TCU (who plays Brent Venables' Sooners on Saturday).
If CJ follows a 45 point improvement on his September numbers with numbers that exactly match what he did last year for games after September, he will finish with a B1G record PE of 197.101 (and a B1G record 52 touchdowns).
CJ has been averaging exactly 4 TD per game since the beginning of October last year. If he keeps that up and the Buckeyes play 15 this year, he will be the first B1G QB with 60 touchdowns in a season, and he will tie Barrett's career record at Ohio State.
Likely because he calls in signals and they color-coordinate with green, red, orange for visibility. Right? An orange shirt with an Ohio State logo on it
smh
