QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

I'm not going to pretend I understand CJ Stroud's thought process, but there's at least 3 QBs that are going in the top 10 of this draft, and the QB killing franchise (the Bears) aren't taking any of them. There is no way he's coming back to try and rig a better landing spot because it's going to be the same kind of teams next year; if anything Seattle and Detroit having someone else's picks makes it MORE likely he ends up in a good structure this year, than next year. If he doesn't want to play for the Texans, he should just pull an Eli Manning/John Elway move and tell them "I am not going to play for you so don't draft me or get ready to trade me."

Now if he wants to come back because he thinks OSU is *this* close to a Natty, that's more plausible. But "he's avoiding the Bears/whoever" makes no sense.

I expect he's just declaring last to prove he's a leader who doesn't want to take the shine away from his teammates' goodbyes; but YMMV.

I have no inside information, but the explanation that makes the most sense to me is that CJ and his agent are playing the game of negotiating to land with the right NFL franchise and using the "Maybe I'll just return to school" card to avoid a disastrous situation.

To make it clear, I agree with this.

To make it more clear, this reasoning has many flaws. As soon as he declares for draft he has zero control over who takes him. Period. He cannot control who takes him in draft.

Is he playing games right now? Probably.

Does he return to OSU? He’d be crazy to do it.

Does a sweet NIL package and another year under Day hurt his lifetime earnings? No, unless he suffers a heart attack or something in next year…..
