QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

Levis going before Stroud is as dumb as Zach Wilson going ahead of Fields.

It takes a real dumbass to build Levis up that much in your mind, where you’re willing to ignore all his shitty tape.

I refuse to believe it.

NFL GMs a lot of the time aren't the smartest bunch. Some idiot out there likes Levis enough for some reason to take him over Stroud

Same with ANTHONY RICHARDSON, he is being mocked pretty high. Despite being a completely awful passer at Florida.

Anthony Richardson and to a lesser extent Levis is all about upside. Much like the Liberty QB last year that people were mocking top 3 then when draft came cooler heads prevailed.

Richardson is their "NEXT LAMAR JACKSON!"

While Levis is their "NEXT JOSH ALLEN!"

Blindly Chasing that "NEXT (WHOEVER)!" instead of more polished things is what gets you fired as a NFL GM.

Lamar wasn't a great college passer either, but he was a good bit better still than Richardson has ever been. That's going to be a huge train wreck if some team actually bites and takes him decently early.

That agent could be using “he can always just stay in college” as leverage in some early conversations. Who knows?

This. There was some discussion, largely suggesting how crazy it would be to give up top-5/10 money, on ZS’s cast today. The position was basically, come back, play at the level he showed against UGA all year and tOSU is pre-season favorite to win it all, he’d be odd-on favorite for Heisman and very high likelihood of winning it all. That may bump his draft status a couple of slots… call it maybe worth $5M? So, is coming back worth $5 later or taking the $30-$35M now?

I’m sure Day has to do his job to talk to him, but if the advice isn’t get out now, I’d be surprised. Doss coming back would pale in comparison to CJ making the same decision.

That said, the only logical conclusion is that he’s holding his cards until he knows exactly where he’s likely to go and they are using all of those cards to put him in the most advantageous position possible. At least, that’s my sincere hope.

I dont believe he comes back obviously.

That said, taking Trey Lances contract as #3 pick in 2021 (probably fair baseline compared to other recent first rd QB’s)…..Trey makes on average $8.5M a year….the key is he got $34M guaranteed.

I think for it to even be a discussion CJ would need to secure at least $6-8M in NIL money. Maybe more…..

I’m not sure if he can leverage that to his advantage in NFL since he has to declare at some point….but maybe they are trying to control some aspects of where he ends up using the potential of staying at OSU.

I don't think he's coming back at all.

If I am his agent and I can use the semi-plausible threat of staying in school as leverage to make him an extra dollar, then why announce until I do so?

Agree. He'd be crazy to come back.
I don't see him going outside the top ~10. No guarantee he'll go any higher next year (will be the USC QB bonanza next year).
Given his phenomenal game vs. GA, I'm sure his agent is pushing to get him into the top-3 using whatever small leverage he has.

I guess I don’t see how he secures more NFL money by delaying his announcement?

Once he declares, the option for NIL in college is gone. But he has to declare well before the draft and gives up all leverage the minute he is draft eligible….

You might believe C.J. Stroud's first and last highlights looked nothing like the rest of his Ohio State legacy.

It's a reasonable opinion. The same quarterback who practically refused to release and run the ball over his two-season tenure introduced himself by racing for a 48-yard touchdown in his debut.

That first highlight bookend happened at Michigan State’s expense in 2020, where the Buckeyes were down ten offensive players and four coaches including Ryan Day and Corey Dennis. Stroud got into his first live college game without his play-caller or position coach in the stadium. They weren't even in the same state.

Thanks to quarantines and a five-touchdown lead, his offensive line was green even by garbage time standards. None of that mattered. Stroud had no intention of just making an appearance.

Stroud, then no.14, threw no passes in his collegiate debut while rushing once for a 48-yard touchdown.

THAT TOUCHDOWN IN EAST LANSING WAS THE FIRST OF 86 HE WOULD SCORE AS OHIO STATE'S QUARTERBACK. IT'S STILL THE ONLY ONE STROUD SCORED WITH HIS FEET.

This week as draft-eligible Ohio State players follow a deliberate cadence to allow each other to make their own uncluttered announcements, Stroud's will likely be the very last one.

NFL teams have studied all of the same highlights we saw, but those organizations utilize a more practical lens than fans do. They saw the same NFL arm, advanced coverage reading and purposeful decision-making for 25 games, 26 if you count garbage time in East Lansing.

The fan lens scrutinizes the reluctance to release and run, the two losses to Michigan (65/97 for 743 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs and a gentle reminder Stroud doesn't play defense or catch passes) along with no division titles. The NFL understands exactly how he performed in big games.

And as a result, he will be unavailable to any team drafting beyond the single-digits. The club Stroud plays for next year will have arguably the best pure passer along with one of the most shrewd decision makers the Buckeyes ever had.

He elevated the program as a destination for quarterbacks. And that is Stroud's Ohio State legacy.
