QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

Not even running, cause he ain't a RB, but just stop acting like he's afraid of contact. I used to think he's just preserving his health for TTUN, but no.

I know CJ can throw a pretty rainbow off his back foot while retreating away from pressure, but what I wouldn't give to see CJ for once stand tall and step into a strike knowing he is going to get hit. I'm sure he would have some chances to do that against UGA, but will he?

those 2.7-3.8 ypc gains with significant bruising of a slight frames QB will surely pay huge dividends.
Stroud towers over Caleb Williams... and Williams won himself a heisman pretending to get significantly bruised, yet seeming no worse for the wear. right?

... Stiffer hipped than Todd or Baus.
damn... that's ugly, but it's true. :ohno::ohno::ohno:

Yeah I just don't understand Day's injury fear with running QBs.

Injury is always something that can happen on every play. Stroud isn't exactly small either so he can run the ball 5 times a game without breaking.

Oh well not like it'll happen anyways.
did he get hurt badly (as a player), or as a QB coach in the NFL get one of his players hurt badly? i don't know his history.

is chip kelly the same way?

No I think Chip runs his QBs a fair amount so I have no clue why Day is so adverse to the QB run. I always understood 2019 since we had no other QBs but 2020-now there's no excuse.

Justin Fields is out there in the NFL breaking multiple long runs a game yet he really wasn't used like that.

I think it goes back to his first year. I think he believes Field's getting hurt during PSU and Michigan lost him the shot for the title vs Burrow.

Simple... once you roll out? Count to 2... if you see no one open then run it.
and get maybe 2-5 yds. you glossed right over the second part of 27's post. his ability to linger and then suddenly unleash a 25 yd laser is something to behold and something unlikely to be seen again for awhile

you're not scoring 50 vs Utah with CJ running. other QBs? maybe (at least theoretically. most can't put up points the way he does)

Against great defenses those lasers haven't been there when he holds onto the ball. Versus these good defenses we just need to keep moving the chains. We do that and those lasers we all love will be available at some point.

Sometimes we just need 5 yards to keep us on schedule instead of 2nd and 10. Because that's when we tend to run the ball for 1 yard gain to set up 3rd and 9.

chip broke his QB in 2007. they waltz into the bcs game if he protected his ultra athletic but slender Dixon.

Justin fields has absolute trash around him. he has to run or he dies. Mooney is the only guy who would play at wr for OSU in the last 3 years. the 3rd or 4rh wr that OSU had on offense in 2019-21 would be a pro bowl level wr in Chicago.

Fair enough... I'm not saying run it 20 times a game. I'm saying that option has got to be on the table at least a few times a game (3-5).

I think you could make a lot of the same progress with simpler looks in the passing game. One thing Michigan is great at doing is making very average QBs look decent with constraints and easy reads to complement their power rushing attack.

occasionally OSU finds a nice constraint or look, and then they never use it again. It's like they are trying to find the next way to outflank the defense instead of making them stop it another time.

the way he does, but erratically.

Totally agreed there. It's like they assume the other team will adjust and stop a certain look. Instead of actually seeing if they've adjusted by actually running the play again.

Sort of holds true that we have a tendency to get cute.

i have to go all the way back to Tressel where i can remember that if a play was working , he would run it again and again until the other team was able to stop it. he seemed to do that especially against ttun.

it seems that under Meyer and Day OSU has this need to show that they're smarter. and where this seems to lead to, especially with Day, is wasted downs (largely ineffective wideout screens, for example) as he tries to set up the next or the next-next play as a way to keep the other team always guessing.

works when OSU is facing inferior teams, mostly. but when the inferior team is actually just as smart (NW or TTUN) or is scrappy, the results are a crap shoot.
