Almost by default Cardale is going into Spring ball as the starter. JT will still be nursing his injury and more than likely not ready and Braxton also is going to be out. So yeah, it is plausible that this was told to Cardale by Urban.

I don't think any assurances were made, but I'd bet it was pointed out to him that he will be available to practice all spring while his competitors are recovering, which gives him a very good chance of distancing himself from the other two and keeps him working hard.

Essentially, he will basically be 1a by default, and all he has to do is continue to bust his ass. Plus, keep working and you potentially go from a 2nd-4th round pick to top-5. It's a calculated risk he's taking, but one that makes some sense.

Its spring ball. They dont have to be healthy, games aren't for another 4-5 months and its not like they are all in coming freshman.
