QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Glenville falls to Hilliard Davidson in Division I state football final

Bob Fortuna, The Plain Dealer, December 06, 2009 7:25 a.m.

Cardale Jones' tears were an indication, but his words spoke volumes.
"I'm shocked, I'm disappointed," said Glenville's junior quarterback.
. . .
Jones' 11-yard completion to Shane Wynn kicked off the three-play drive, which ended on a pass to Christian Bryant, who fumbled the ball on the Wildcats' 2-yard line. Nicholas Davis picked up the loose ball and raced into the end zone.'

Hilliard Davidson 16, Cleveland Glenville 15: Wildcats' gutsy call pays off big

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
. . .

After three splendid pass plays by Cardale Jones covered 55 yards, Jones decided to run and scored on a 10-yard keeper. He passed to Shane Wynn for a tying two-point conversion.

On Davidson's next play, Tyler Talbott fumbled and Glenville took over at the Davidson 20.

A 9-yard TD pass from Jones to Christian Bryant with 2:04 left in the third quarter gave the Tarblooders a 15-8 lead and loads of momentum.

Scouting The State Finals

...
Cardale Jones got off to a shaky start but righted his ship and looked like he can be a special player. His numbers would have been really impressive, and Glenville would be the Division I state champions with any help from his team. Five clearly catchable balls were dropped, including back-to-back perfectly thrown touchdown passes. In addition, a 99 yard touchdown pass was called back on a personal foul penalty. He went 5-for-5 at one point in the second half. Several former skeptics became believers after this showing. Greg Frey was in the booth and seemed very impressed with Jones.

I was just on Bucknuts, and some guys are bashing Braxton Miller in favor of Cardale. Is Cardale that good to where the Buckeyes would rather have him than Miller? I thought Miller was/is a stud and was just injured this year, but just looking for other's opinions.

No, Braxton is a much better player right... hence his offers vs. Cardale's. Not a knock on Cardale at all either, just Braxton is a better QB now and has more potential.

Actually it's Cardale with his size and arm strength that has the better potential, but Miller's quickness and being more polished makes him the best player right now.

Duane Long's take...

Jones and Miller - Who do you take?

If you can't take both I think you have to take an honest assessment of the position. Do you have someone that can let one of those young guys sit, get stronger, get used to the speed of the game and learn the playbook, or do you need him to step in right away and play.
If you can let a kid sit and work him into the lineup at your leisure, I say go with Jones. He is a bigger stronger kid but is the more raw of the two.

Interesting article by DL. But doesn't the fact that Jones plays for a uber-talented Glenville squad factor into the matter? Wayne doesn't have nearly the amount of D1 players, so Miller has to do more with less. Just a thought

I can't speak for DL but I'm pretty sure he takes that into account...

I'll file DL's take right next to his scouting reports for clay belton and devonte payne.

Cardale isn't that much bigger (comparing their listed measureables, Cardale is showing 6'4" 200, while Braxton is 6'2" 190 - of course you never know though with these)... but Braxton also has a GUN and is more athletic. I am not sure of Cardale's arm strength, and I am sure you haven't seen them both throw side by side, so I am not sure how you're able to say he throws with more velocity.
