QB Antonio Henton (transfer to Ga. Southern and FT. Valley St.)

not sure if it's something we can discuss here, but has anyone heard word if it's a playing time issue, or him being homesick, or disgruntled with the staff over how his legal issue was handled, or all of none of the above?
I think it's safe to say a little bit of all of the above, with the legal issues being a catalyst in his and his family's discussion of a transfer.

I really, really hope Henton doesn't transfer. After Schoenhoft's transfer and Boeckman's fate-season dropoff, he has to be optimistic about his chances at grabbing the starting spot this season...and if anyone starts mentioning Pryor having a real shot at being a starter as a true freshman, forget about it.

I agree, I guess there are probably certain dynamics that we are not aware of that are factoring into him wanting to leave. As it stands now, I think it's safe to say that this one could go either way. The kid is a wonderful talent, I think some of the factors playing into his potential transfer have nothing to do with PT.

so the Rumor of him transfering is still out there?? Gosh I'd sure hope not because he's not that far off from seeing the field especially if Pryor doesn't come. IMO, he'd probably beat out pryor as the back up to start the year even if pryor came

I don't know that he missed many reps. He was with the team and practicing.

He was at practice but I doubt he was getting as many reps as before. With him being suspended and unable to play, I'm sure practice time was used to get Schoenhoft as many reps as possible in case he was forced into action.

Boeckman/Henton welcome any and all competition
...

Antonio Henton was elevated to the No. 2 position in bowl practice. Though he didn't play in the title game, the coaching staff likely is plotting how to use the more mobile Henton this fall, at least situationally.

Each of the past two national champions used a two-quarterback template that would look similar to a Boeckman/Henton rotation: Florida had steady senior Chris Leak and scrambling freshman Tim Tebow in 2006, and Louisiana State had fifth-year senior Matt Flynn and sophomore Ryan Perrilloux last season.

"I think it could work," Ohio State quarterbacks coach Joe Daniels said. "Sometimes you can get carried away with it, but I think if you work on the strengths of each of the guys, and they're different, then I think you can accomplish a lot."

Then there's Terrelle Pryor, who apparently is the next Dan Marino, Joe Montana, John Elway, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning all rolled into one. The Jeannette, Pa., prospect has Ohio State among his final choices, and he has been vocal about getting a chance to play right away.

Henton said he's not worried about competing with Pryor.

"That just makes me think they want another quarterback to come in that can do some things I can do," Henton said. "I hope they do get him. That makes me go harder."
On a two-quarterback system with Henton, he said, "That's not a big deal to me at all. If that gives us a better chance of winning, I'm all for it. I know he's a great player, and he can give us an extra added dimension."

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Editor's note: The following is Ken Gordon's most recent post in Blogging the Buckeyes , Dispatch.com's Ohio State football blog:

OK, no sooner do I say I have no news to report, then I get a delayed call back and now I have news:

Rumors had been flying that QB Antonio Henton has been thinking about transferring. Some speculated the Georgia native may head back closer to home, specifically to Georgia Southern. It's a successful Division I-AA school where he could play right away, and the offensive coordinator there is Henton's old high school coach, Rance Gillespie.

Well, forget about it. Gillespie just told me he kept in close touch with Henton, and has heard nothing about him transferring anywhere.

"He is extremely happy there (at Ohio State)," Gillespie said.

if we get TP do you see any possibility of Antonio beating him out or Antonio maybe switching position. I would be afraid of Tp transfering out if he didn't get the starting job after next year when todd leaves. I think in the end antonio will either transfer or switch positions if we get TP. A two quarterback system wouldn't work because they are both similar style quarterbacks. I guess this would be a good problem to have though. :oh::io:

They will both compete along with Todd for the starting position, odds are a freshman would sit a year for two things, Him to get familiar with his teammates and Tressell to work a system around him. This is Hentons thread so I don't want to go too much into TP, but remember, the kid also wants to play basketball so it would be an ideal situation for him to sit, and play with Matta the first year.

I agree i don't want to talk to muck about tp in antonio's thread. I at least hope tp will consider a redshirt so that we can get some seperation between him and antonio. I would like to see them both get a chance to play together. It would be nice for antonio to start when todd leaves and then TP take the reigns after him. I do think it would be hard for TP to start before antonio if he wants to still play basketball that would be tough. Plus antonio knows the system, and TP doesn't. I just hope antonio isn't in the dog house for his off the field issue. Bottom line i want to see them both start for the buckeyes we can use them both.:oh::io:
