NEW ORLEANS ? Ohio State is expecting to face two quarterbacks with different styles in the national title game, and LSU might want to start planning on facing multiple QBs, too.
Although offensive coordinator Jim Bollman said OSU intends to stick with junior Todd Boeckman the whole way, sophomore receiver Brian Hartline revealed the team has been preparing redshirt freshman Antonio Henton for a possible cameo.

"I'll be surprised if he doesn't play," Hartline said. "I think he's going to add one of those wrinkles ... something you have to game-plan for and have to respect."

Ohio State Buckeyes might use backup QB Antonio Henton to surprise LSU

Friday, January 04, 2008Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
New Orleans -- Ohio State was so predictable in last year's BCS National Champi onship that Florida defensive coordinator Greg Mattison later used the Buckeyes for a case study of how to figure out an offense.
Speaking at the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association convention last March, according to the Capital Times of Madison, Mattison noted how, for instance, of 90 formations he scouted when the Buckeyes had two running backs and two tight ends, OSU ran 80 times. He also relayed the pregame prediction of his son Bryan, who just finished his football career at Iowa.
"I think they're going to kick the crap out of them," he said before Florida's 41-14 win, "because Dad's defense was calling out plays before they'd run them."

Uh, any DC who wasn't at least planning on seeing Henton on a "just-in-case" basis (e.g., injury to Boeckman) should be fired. If you think that LSU has been planning only for Boeckman all along you're sadly mistaken...

Backup QB says he was wrongly arrested of soliciting prostitution

By RUSTY MILLER

NEW ORLEANS

Ohio State backup quarterback Antonio Henton, who pleaded guilty in November to a minor misdemeanor count of loitering for prostitution, said Saturday during the Buckeyes' national championship preparations that police wrongly arrested him and did not read him his rights.

A Columbus police spokesman disputed Henton's version of the arrest.

Henton, a redshirt freshman from Fort Valley, Ga., spoke with reporters for the first time since his arrest just south of the Ohio State campus on Sept. 24 for offering a female police officer $20 for a sex act.

"I was in the wrong place at the wrong time," Henton said during the Buckeyes' bowl media day at the Louisiana Superdome before Monday night's title game against LSU. "The police officers pulled me over to the corner. Like anybody else I stopped, and she was harassing me. Then it got flipped around, the story got flipped around. So of course they're going to take the officer's side of the story."

Henton said when the female officer beckoned to him, she asked him what he wanted to do and he asked, "What do you mean?"

"I guess because of me saying 'For what?' she took it as a price, that she was throwing a price out at me," he said. "It really wasn't nothing like I was looking for sex or whatever."

Plea deal was quicker, Henton says
Backup QB calls solicitation arrest a misunderstanding

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

NEW ORLEANS -- He thought he was helping a woman in distress, Antonio Henton said. In rural Georgia, you pull over when someone flags you down.
Instead, Henton, an Ohio State freshman quarterback, was accused of soliciting an undercover police officer for sex and suspended from the team.
Given that, what has happened to Henton in the past month has been quite a turnaround. He was elevated to backup quarterback in December and, coach Jim Tressel said, he has a 50-50 chance of playing Monday night against LSU in the national championship game.
"I'm just glad to have that in my past," Henton said yesterday. "I'm trying to get on with my life."

Ex-Peach QB disputes arrest, plea

Buckeyes' Henton says rights were violated during Columbus sting

BCS Notebook
Henton move could become advantage
As second-string QB, he increases options for OSU coach Tressel
By George M. Thomas

NEW ORLEANS: Lost in all the hoopla that is the BCS National Championship Game is a seemingly innocuous move that Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and his staff made ? Antonio Henton's move to second-string quarterback.
There might be more to it, however, as OSU looks for any advantage against LSU. Of course, Tressel played that fact close to his proverbial sweater vest.
''Is there a pretty good chance? Define pretty good chance,'' he said when asked whether Henton, who is a dual threat as a passer and runner, would play.
When the reporter replied 65 percent, Tressel said, ''Maybe a little less than that.''
''Better than 50-50?'' the reporter asked.
''Right about there,'' Tressel said. ''How's that?''
