QB Antonio Henton (transfer to Ga. Southern and FT. Valley St.)

Robbie is now at tight end so I can reiterate my statement that Henton will see playing time in the NC game now. One way or another he will get a/some snaps.

While I think it would be interesting to see what Antonio would do, do you really think a QB who hasn't gotten a real snap in months will start taking snaps in the national title game? I feel like Robbie's move to TE does show confidence in Antonio, but not necessarily enough confidence to work him into the game plan.

Where did you see Tressel said that? If so, should be interesting to see.

Closest I have seen is this partial transcript on BN:

Tressel said he would have no qualms in going to Henton if something happened to starter Todd Boeckman.
"We'd like to think that that could be something we could do,? Henton said. ?We're preparing to do that. You have to, just in case the injury occurs. But you'd like to to have the bonus to maybe have a little change of pace. So that's what the intention of all these practices was, to get a second guy ready to maybe give you a jump start here and there.?

Could also be JT giving the LSU folks a little more to scheme for...

Henton provides option at quarterback

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Not only has Ohio State been warming up No. 2 quarterback Antonio Henton in the bullpen this month, he might even play in the national championship game Jan. 7 against LSU, coach Jim Tressel said yesterday.

"We're preparing to do that. You have to, just in case the injury occurs (to starter Todd Boeckman)," Tressel said. "But you'd like to just have the bonus to maybe have a little change of pace.
"So that's what our intention with all of these practices was, to get a second guy ready to maybe give you a jump-start here or there."
Henton was on the rise early in the season before being arrested and charged with soliciting a prostitute. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of loitering for solicitation. Tressel suspended Henton for seven games, then reinstated him for the Michigan game, though he did not play.

Tressel says Henton at quarterback is possible in title game
Sunday, December 30, 2007

REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS Wrapped in a cocoon of film study, national title preparation and a surprise for LSU, Jim Tressel let his players get out a little Saturday. They didn?t go far ? just across the street.

Ohio State?s football team was introduced during the men?s basketball game Saturday at Value City Arena, and the thunderous roar that greeted them was the reminder the players needed.

Certainly, OSU fans are proud, but they?re also expecting the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes to return to Columbus with the national championship trophy this time.

Tressel confirmed that Antonio Henton continues to occupy the backup quarterback slot ahead of Robby Schoenhoft who is working at tight end this month. Tressel also hinted that Henton's role be larger than that of a simple backup by the time that game rolls around.

"Antonio has been getting all the second reps and has done a good job," said Tressel.

"As we looked at ourselves trying to work a number two and a number three both we didn't see progression being made that we needed.

"You better go in (to the national championship game) with two quarterbacks ready to win, especially in a championship game. It's just hard to get three guys reps," said Tressel.

Tressel said that Henton could in fact be a change-of-look type quarterback for the Buckeyes.

"We'd like to think that's something we could do and we're preparing to do that," said Tressel.

"You have to just in case the injury occurs but you'd like to to have a bonus, to have maybe a little change of pace.

"That's what our attention in all these practices was, to get a second guy
ready to maybe give you a jump start here or there.

"I thought he (Henton) was coming along and then we had the unfortunate situation where he lost his privileges for seven games.

"Exactly what would have happened in those seven games I don't know but I thought he was really starting to come. In the last game he played he probably played 20 snaps and played pretty well," Tressel said.
