Gator transfer in 2009? (He'd be a better fit with us than the butt sniffers from Athens)
I think he'd work w/ uga. DJ Shockley.....

Im really bummed to hear this, I live in GA and actually seen AH play a lot. I was really excited to hear he was going tosu. Things just didnt work out the way they should have..

After watching some of AH's HS playoff games (on the web), I so looked forward to him being the next in the long but improving line of mobile, solid QB's to don the S&G. What with his skills and the coaching from Daniels and Tress, he was bound for the NFL. Good luck AH, you'll always be a Buck, sorry it didn't work out, and sorry that some #$^%*&^% Columbus Police officers helped to screw up your chances here :(

Why are people saying he will transfer back to a 1A school?

If he does that..

08 - rSo, starts at Georgia Southern
09 - rJr, has to air out as a transfer
10 - rSr has one year to earn the starting job and impress scouts.

IMO, he'd be much better served to go the Joe Flacco route and stay at D1AA and play well.

Call me ignorant (go ahead, I am) but if he transferred from Georgia Southern after next year to a Bowl eligible college (or whatever the f$%^ the call themselves now) would he have to sit out a year or would it be like a junior college and he'd be eligible immediately?

I may be wrong, but I don't think players have to sit for a year when transferring from 1AA to 1A. Larry Grant didn't have to sit, granted he was a JUCO trans, but I think it's only 1A to 1A that requires a year off the field. I think Henton is a 1A talent and he would have a better chance of being drafted from that level.

OSU football: Henton expected to transfer to Georgia Southern, sources say

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State quarterback Antonio Henton is expected to transfer to Georgia Southern soon, according to several sources close to the team. Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel refused to confirm the move today, saying only that Henton, ?is a good kid.?
Henton would be the second OSU quarterback to leave the program since January, when Rob Schoenhoft transferred to Delaware.
The move would leave the Buckeyes very inexperienced at the position. The job of backing up fifth-year senior Todd Boeckman would fall to redshirt freshman Joe Bauserman and true freshman Terrelle Pryor.

My interpretation as well.

It is still rough on any QB who can't use their redshirt year to learn the O at the new school.

I googled it, and all I got was endless pages of 1A to 1A..

But IIRC, if a player transferring within the same division, or up a division, he has to sit out a year, but if he transfers down, he doesn't have to sit out.

I looked up the official NCAA transfer rules, almost as confusing as reading the entire 1040 tax booklet. It does appear that transferring to 1A from 1AA requires a 1 year residence (non-eligible) at the new school. There are exceptions, but it looks like football and basketball are not included. Still, it may be worth it for Antonio if he gets an offer from am elite BCS program. The good news is, none of us will be helping him with that decision.

Damn shame that things didn't work out here, but this kid initially had the pick of a pretty big litter and chose THE Ohio State University. For that, he will ALWAYS be a Buckeye, and we as fans will always appreciate that fact and hope the best for him in wherever his next journey in life takes him.

Best of luck, Antonio. You wore the jersey "proud."

Peace.

I believe the rules are:

Transferring inter-conference, the player must sit a year and can not go on scholarship at the new school.

Transferring 1A to 1A, the player must sit a year

Transferring 1A to 1AA, the player can play immediately, if the student is academically eligible.

This does suck to lose another Buckeye, but I guess thats what happens when you are loaded with talent. Personally, I thought we would have seen a Defensive Back leave before Henton leaving.
