Purdue +7.5 at #1 tOSU (ov/un 134.5) Tue 9 ET, ESPN

Lauderdale will probably only play about half the game, so there will be times when Sully is guarding Johnson. I'd say you're right about foul trouble being a real concern - I think they'll double that matchup, especialy if Johnson puts the ball on the floor.

I'm also wondering if they'll try Lighty on Johnson at times. But Johnson's turnaround jumper may make that a bad matchup.

Purdue uses 8 primary scorers in their rotation.
Offensively they, like tOSU, seem to operate with one big surrounded by 4 guards on the perimeter.
The top 8 scorers and highest average minutes per game would seem to offer some ideal match up strategies for Thad.

The Big is big--Jajuan Johnson 6' 10" and averaging 21 ppg.
He is surrounded on the perimeter by 7 guards including:
E. Moore, 6'4" averaging 18 ppg.
Jackson, 5'9" averaging 7 ppg.
Smith 6'3" averaging 7 ppg.
Hart 6'2" averaging 6 ppg.
Barlow 6'5" averaging 6 ppg.
Johnson 6'2" averaging 5 ppg.
Byrd 6'5" (listed as a g/f) averaging 5 ppg.

Depth on the front line is limited. the next off the bench average less than 10 min per game and average less than 1.5 ppg.
Rather than the match up difficulites tOSU will face on defense, the real issue ought to be How Purdue D will match up with tOSU potent O.
I like the options Thad can use against this Purdue squad. I could see Johnson on Sullie, Moore on Lighty, but the length of Diebler, Buford, and Lauderdale could cause a Boiler explosion and meltdown.

Lewis Jackson is such a quick little waterbug that he'll be hard to guard. On the other hand, there's not a Buckeye on the roster who couldn't post him up effectively - and that includes the team managers.

Should be a fun game. I think the line is about right.

This is super helpful, thank you. I had no idea Purdue is so small... I'd look for Lighty to have a better day than Saturday, and agree that the matchups really favor tOSU which we seem to have an advantage for every position except maybe the Sully-Johnson matchup, but can throw Lauderdale at him which will help Sully's performance... I didn't like the 7.5 at first glance, but am feeling a little more bullish upon reflection...

do you really think that Lauderdale will play 20 minutes or are you referring to the fact that he will play half of his usual minutes. I think Johnson would take Dallas away from the basket which might create foul troubles for him. I think when Dallas is not in the game Sully will have to take Johnson because Lighty will have to take Moore . I just don't think David can handle him because of his size. Oh, what the hell do we know anyhow. Thad will figure it out for us anyhow:wink:

I just put everything (which isn't much), on tOSU, the over, Sullinger, and Diebs. You guys better come through for me tonight! :osu:

I took tOSU, the over, Diebs and lighty. I think Purdont will do everything to try and stop Sully. Well if they watched film from the last game :) I almost might throw a modest bet to sully's 18+

Go Buckeyes!!! :osu:

This is the 4th game this year that overlaps with a UD game. As a UD season ticket holder, I will be at the game against Richmond. At least the OSU game is a late game. I should be home by 9:45 in time to catch the second half.

I meant to point out that Dallas won't be on the floor (at least) half the game, so Sully will likely guard Johnson for a large portion of the game, which could get him into foul trouble.

I think Craft can guard Moore when he's in the game, so they can then use Lighty on Johnson if they want to. Who Sully guards at that point, I have no idea.

I'm watching a replay of the Jan 2010 game in West Lafayette (on BTN now), and Diebler was just guarding Johnson in a matchup zone. Of course, that zone wasn't working in the first half against Hummel. I think Evan Turner has a decent second half, though.
