Puppy named "Teddy"?

1) This puppy needs a name! we can't keep calling it puppy forever...

2) I need advice about caring for a dog while working fulltime; right now I'm leaning towards using a big metal crate and partitioning it off until she grows. I'm hoping to work at the Dispatch, which would allow me to eat in transit and let the dog out during lunch.

Disclaimer: I should note this is going to be my puppy. This is the cutest puppy ever. She was found along the side of the road, tied to a tree in the rain. They checked with the pound and put out notices... and there were no responses (going on two weeks now). So it seems like someone left them there :(

The best part is that the dog is the best behaved dog ever, and I've had some incredibly well behaved dogs. She is really cute, really playful, never barks or bites, and isn't overly exciteable.

don't do the kitchen/babygate thing.... get a dog cage (one of the metal ones) and put her in there when no one is home until she is housebroken and can be trusted to not mess anything up while she's alone

We 'crate' trained our golden retriever. Worked great. We still have it and she goes in there from time to time - it's her den :)

Regarding a name, I was gonna suggest Cooter, but that's more of a masculine name.

Name it Shithead, not Lifesaver.

The metal crate is the way to go. Prevents chewing (floors, walls, furniture), gives them a place to call their own and helps with the housebreaking.

Trust me on this, go with the dog cage/crate suggestion. Remember to train the dog early, especially with "come here". Once it's bigger you won't be able to catch it, so there is no way to punish it. Reward it for going into the cage, and don't let it out when (if) it's whining.

Name it whatever you like. My dog is named "Oscar the Scarlet", and my next one will be "Norman the Gray".

Good advice guys. I actually have a big metal crate I can use, and I've seen advice that I should just partition it off while the dog is smaller (and remove the partitions when it gets bigger).

The funniest thing is that everyone and their mother has a different idea about what mixture she is. If you ask me, she clearly has some beagle in her, and her back hair is really german shepherd-esque. Could be some boxer or other breeds in there too.

I really wanted to name the dog Teddy, and the girl actually wouldn't have vetoed the name (fits her well). I was very sad to find the wrong parts underneath.

Scarlet? SIMV just suggested this via AIM and I obviously like the name for obvious reasons not related to him... but she doesn't look very scarlet.

Gonna check what street she was found on soon... she was also tied to a maple tree, but I don't really like that name.

jwinslow, I think you are correct about the shepard/beagle mix. Kujo looks alot like the dog I had growing up. She was a shepard/beagle mix...great dog.
