I can easily do 6 push ups....

yum, push-ups!!! They just dont taste tha same as they did as kids.

I would not recommend doing them because of form. Most people doing regular pull-ups do not execute them correctly. My recommendation would be not to do any weighted until 10 pull-ups can be done properly. If the client would insist on doing them, I would send them to a sporting goods store to buy a weighted belt rather than have them use a standard belt with chains and plates. Body Builders and serious power lifters might argue this, and for what they are after it may be ok, but the average Joe lifting for conditioning and health should skip them or wait.

At my practices we had to daily perform...

1 pull up.. drop to the floor.. 2 pull ups... drop to the floor... 3 pull ups drop to the floor... and follow that formula up to 10.

I had the hardest time doing it of anyone on the team aside from a couple of the heavyweights. I know you said this isn't a height thing. But at 6 foot 150 pounds, I have some long skinny arms, so the dead hang part makes it a bitch.

Although 6 is still easy for me.. I'll revisit this thread in 5 years though :)

Umm...We would just hang on the bar, cross our legs at the ankles, bend our knees at a 90 degree angle and have someone place a dumbell inbetween our calves.

I hope what I just said makes sense.

Oh and btw, the teacher in our class is a football coach and knows alot about lifting. Our class is almost all football players. With the exception of two girls. So most know alot about lifting also.

We never had the fancy belts. We would just put weight in a back pack, then do them.


What's with all the macho threads lately? That being said, hell yes I can do six pull ups...b/c I am a man's man (pounds chest).

Ok, now that I have regained my composure. Being a coach or players don't mean shit. Yes, there are many coaches that are extremely knowledgable when it comes to lifting wights but there are just as many that are full of it and just THINK they know because this is how they did it in college or high school in 1970.

I hope what I just said makes sense.
Why exactly wouldn't that make sense?

I started running rather seriously last year and since then my upper body strength went to shit. I went ocean kayaking over spring break and I felt so weak after a kilometer or so.

But that changes today! Hurray for RPAC!
