Proof of the Existence of God

I can't say one way or the other. I've been so out of the loop for so long that the only thing I remotely recollect is the 13 principles (and none of them explicitly state anything regarding God and nothing):

http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/332555/jewish/Maimonides-13-Principles-of-Faith.htm
I was basically trying to remember "Guide for the perplexed" and the concept of negative theology. Or, in trying to determine what qualities G-d has without breaking any commandment that G-d is ONE, it is only proper to talk about what he isn't. That is to say, we cannot say "G-d is Good" because in doing so, we limit him to only goodness... we should say "G-d is not not good"

But, it's been several years since I've read it.

I believe this coincides with ineffability and transcendance which is, conceptually, something that fascinates me considerably. Poignantly, it's a vast distinction from the Christian viewpoint, and I think that's why I became so drawn to it.

Yeah, that's the word I was looking for, ineffability. That was at the center of his rationale. Regarding your second sentence, I would think Rambam would find the idea of the trinity to be quite inappropriate.

What? You're going to tell me that from scientists (carbon dating & archaeology) it rebukes the bible's story and proves it to be false?

When sicence says that earth is more than 7000 yeard old, do you attribute that to science being wrong or the Bible's offering of "7000" years being open to interpretation?

This bothers me so much. No matter what you say religious folk just chalk it up to "well...you are just taking that out of context." or "that is not how it is suppose to be interpreted."

Any deity that claims to be omnipotent and omniscient when their word (book) is full of contradictions, rape, murder, sexism and genocide (god killing 2.4 million while satan killed 10-60) is one you should not even begin to follow. All powerful and knowing yet still allows death and starvation because he didn't provide enough of a presents to even believe he exists. That is one smart god.....Boy, I am glad he helped Tebow get all those TD's in college and not help the starving and suppressed.

I believe in planes of existence. I believe in ghosts. I believe in life. There is no such thing as death (of a soul).

So I got to thinking more about the concept of a "soul". I actually find this claim more interesting than whether a God exists as a soul is something that's tangible since it somehow interacts with our physical body. What exactly is a soul? Is there only one soul per person? What if someone has multiple personalities or suffers from a brain injury during their life, which version of their "self" is infused in their soul after death? Does a soul exist before one is born and does a soul control the brain or does the brain control the soul?

Also: if the soul survives the death of the body, whether it goes to Heaven or resides in some other place/plane, how much of the human personality is retained in it?
