Preseason magazines 2010: Steele, Athlon, Lindy's, etc.

There is no comparison between beating a mildly respected media darling like Boise State & pantsing a SEC superpower, especially one like Bama which is on track to receive the Dynasty/All-time-great hype that Miami, Oklahoma, USC & Florida received.

Beat Boise State and it does little to change people's perception about Ohio State. They become another overrated OSU opponent.

Smoke Alabama after a great season, and you've accomplished a great deal.
That opportunity only comes along once in a great while. If it boils down to it though, winning the NC (regardless of opponent) would definitely be that highlight anyway.
Not really. You can burst that bubble in the regular season (VaTech) or even a lowly regarded BCS Bowl (OU-Boise St). You can expose them in those situations.

You can't do the same to Alabama, even in a BCS non-NC game. Utah dominated them and it was largely forgotten in a week.

I'm with Jwins on this one to a degree.

While there is no honor in smashing a helpless opponent (unless its scUM) its not like we'll be petitioning to give the fucking trophy back if it should come at the expense of a Boise State.

If I could draw up the perfect scenario however it would be a solid ass whipping of a massively ESPiN hyped SEC team over a serious beat down of some UC/USF/BSU johnny come lately mid major.

Don't want to sidetrack this thread too much w/you Jwins but I definitely see the points you're making. I at the same time have been pissed about the Boise State obsession for years now and am personally sick of it. Of course beating 'Bama or Florida or etc. would make a bigger splash as far as OSU's legend goes, but if there is a team slated to play BSU in the Big Game & it's us...I will be more than thrilled to be the ones to annihilate them and pop their long-lasting bubble. Your argument is great...it's not really even an argument, but I like what you said. Maybe my personal grudge against BSU (and my alum/annoying prick boss) is getting the best of me.

Taking care of an SEC power (handily) in the title game then watching Boise get smashed by any school in a BCS game would work just fine for me. We don't have to do it ourselves, any team would work fine. I'd prefer to have another teams victory marginalized by them beating BSU. As for tOSU, I want the SEC champ.

Are there any official release dates for the preseason mags? I'm going on vacation in a couple weeks and I'd love to have something to read next to the pool.

The earliest one I have seen is Lindy's I believe which is June 1st. You'll likely see them on shelves as early as this weekend. Phil Steele will be out a week later which is some quality poolside reading material if there aren't any hot chicks in bikinis to keep your attention.

Just an fyi for everyone, the Barnes and Noble at Easton has the Lindy's, Athlon, and Sporting News National College Football Previews as well as the Athlon Big Ten Preview in stock. I'm assuming that if this one does, most if not all other ones do as well. I also suspect that we'll see the Phil Steele on shelves by this time next week.
