Premier League (Official Thread)

Spurs in big trouble at Leeds. Down 2-0 after a great finish by Ross McCormack. Dempsey has been rather poor today. Just missed from inside the six-yard box.

I stand corrected. Dempsey's header puts Spurs on the board four minutes later off a Bale Cross. 2-1 Leeds. 59th minute.

The whole team has been poor. The back line has been shocking.

Dempsey has been miscast as a lone striker because the team refuses to buy anybody at the position. Defoe is dinged up and Adebayor is at AFCON. They finally brought on Obika after Dempsey's goal - a young player who people don't seem to think much of.

And the CM pairing of Parker and Huddlestone should never, ever, ever happen again. Dembele needs rest, but I would have rather seen Tom Carroll out there - somebody who can ping passes around at the tempo that Spurs like to play.

So at the top of the table, everybody drew except Man U and Everton, who both took three points. The Toffees are doing a better job of hanging around than I anticipated.

The bottom of the table is really interesting, especially with the transfer deadline upon us. [strike]Neufchatel[/strike] Newcastle and [strike]Alain Pardeiu[/strike] Alan Pardew are buying every French player they can find. I think they are in a good enough position and have enough quality to avoid going down. Pardew's contract though... yikes. He's like the Kirk Ferentz of English football.

QPR are buying every shit player that 'Arry tried to get Spurs to buy over the last couple years. I know all the names, and they're decent players for a club like QPR, and they are all mercenaries on obscene wages and with demotion release clauses. What happens if they do the impossible and find a way to stay up? They won't be able to keep paying some of these players. Doesn't matter though, because they're at the very bottom and they won't get anywhere if they continue to park the bus and play for scoreless draws the way they have been. The mix of signings and cynical tactics makes me wonder what kind of sell-on fees Redknapp has lined up for when they're in the Championship and he ends up having to unload these guys.

Contrast those two teams with Aston Villa, who are sinking like a stone and aren't trying to do a damn thing about it. Without the Cleveland Browns to neglect anymore, he has been able to be fully negligent of Villa like he always wanted to be. Seriously, what is this guy doing with Haslam's truck stop money. Do Villa fans even know that Lerner came into over a billion dollars earlier in the season, and isn't spending a penny of it?
