And why else would Dempsey not show up at training camp, especially in light of the fact that Jol has said he wanted Dempsey to stay? The team certainly didn't tell him not to show up. He was trying to force their hand. It worked.
Not sure how anything that happened could give you a different interpretation other than Dempsey pulled a Carmelo.
