Premier League (Official Thread)

The Spurs sure do love them some speed on the flanks. He should get plenty of playing time, Kyle Walker is frequently hurt.

I wouldn't say that Walker is frequently hurt, though he has been experiencing a nagging injury for most of this year that just won't seem to get better. Before that the main problem was that he played too many games, mainly due to lack of sufficient cover at his position.

With the terms of the Yedlin deal being what they are, it doesn't look like it will really have a bearing on this PL season. The earliest he could join Spurs is January, and even then the club is saying for now that he might not join until the start of the 2015/16 season.

I like it from a business perspective. It's a dirt cheap purchase by PL standards, so the risk is low. Even if he doesn't cut it, he's worth a premium if he's sold back to MLS at some point so odds are good that they would recoup the fee if not more. In the meantime, just look at how much was spent on Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers in this window. Those two went for a combined £46 million. In this same window Spurs have bought Yedlin and Ben Davies for £2.4 million + Gylfi Sigurdsson. There are good reasons for the price differences between one pair of players and the others, but I like the value that Spurs have been able to get. Not to mention, we have the manager that helped turn Shaw and Chambers into highly sought players at Soton. If he can managed to stay employed at Spurs longer than 18 months (a BIG "if", I know) I like the chances of him bringing the fullbacks we've bought to the next level.

In terms of USMNT prospects, I don't think there are many better places Yedlin could have gone for his future development.

Hoping for one more incoming for Spurs. They need a CB really bad. ITK has them going after Mateo Musacchio of Villareal. No doubt Daniel Levy is going to leave this one for deadline day. Gotta leave something to keep Jim White busy on deadline day.

The rumored move to Roma would have been the other great option.

I'm far far more of a US follower than any world club team so I care a lot about where these guys end up, I actually don't mind Spurs. I'm glad he'll be able to continue playing until he's really ready to integrate into the team (next summer likely). No sense in rushing and only hurting himself in terms of the depth chart. Happy for Yedlin and his prospects as a Yank.

Is that PPV? Or part of a sports package?

Part of regular digital cable - no sports package. Same tier of service as ESPNU, MLB Network, BBC America, etc.

EDIT: This isn't really a new thing - just new to TWC because they are dicks and don't opt in for most "TV everywhere" apps because they want you to use theirs instead. The problem with TWC's app is that it is restricted to only work on your home network so it couldn't be used on the go. Also, TWC's app showed the channel, but if there were simultaneous games you couldn't pick which one you wanted to watch.

Tony Pulis leaves Crystal Palace. I guess he wanted them to loosen the purse strings. I don't know what he was thinking making those demands. It's not like he had a great record in the transfer market at Stoke.

Sad to see for Palace... I agree with not opening up the pocketbook for him, but it sucks for them to lose a manager who had them on such good form last year, so close to the start of the new campaign.

As for the sack race vBet... I closed it down earlier in the day when the rumors started floating around, but have reinstated it with the Pulis line removed. There were a couple bets already place on other lines that were technically losing bets, but since it hadn't even reached its closing date yet I didn't think it was fair to settle the bet. We'll just let it ride for now. I don't think anybody imagined that we'd see a managerial change at this stage. This kind of craziness is what makes the EPL so interesting though.

For some reason, I just realized Ian Darke was narrating "Premier League World" (even though he's been doing it for decades).

Still don't know why anyone -- outside of maybe gamblers -- would waste time this Fall watching Fowler, Corso and Herbstreit promote the SEC and troll when there is actual live sports on NBC/NBCSN/CNBC (not that live games now are any different than the live games on FOX Soccer in the past).

It's my favorite way to spend a Saturday in the fall. Soccer in the morning Ohio State football in the afternoon. :pimp:

Everton painting the woodwork today. Two beautiful goals and they look the better side as expected.

Leicester manager a response shortly after the first goal on a poor clearance. 2-1 at the break. I love having the Premier League back.
