Premier League (Official Thread)

Same here. I am a big Swans fan and it is too bad they shit the bed for 5 minutes, because they were playing well up until then. Happens against ManU a lot though.

Swans are probably my second favorite team in the premiership if I were forced to choose. I think they can do like Everton did last year and be the team that hangs around the top-four discussion until late in the season. I think Bony is going to prove to be another steal for them. I had hoped Spurs would take a flier on him as a second striker.

I don't think today's result changes my mind about how Swans will do. Manchester United does that to a lot of other teams. In fact, I don't get all of the people who keep saying ManU will be below their usual standard just because Ferguson retired. I think they'll be strong again this season and even though he won't be in the dugout, that team still has his fingerprints all over it. They have top notch forwards and their midfield and back line tend to perform greater than the sum of their parts. They are ruthlessly efficient, so they can have success even when people in certain instances think they are not the better team on the pitch in that game. I think it's natural to expect that when a manager like Ferguson leaves that there will be a bit of a dip. After all, if you believe like most that Ferguson was in a class of his own as a manager then you'd also have to believe that the man who replaced him may not be able to carry on at the same level. I think that's true, but I don't agree that we're going to see evidence of it this season. This is still very much Ferguson's team with the players he picked and the culture that he instilled. If there is to be any decay (even if only slight) I think it's going to take time for it show up.

The one thing I thought was happening in the first half of the Swansea match was a delay on the commentary. The announcer would say things before they happened. I'm positive I was hallucinating.

I don't think you were hallucinating. I noticed the same thing during the early match. I didn't get to see Swansea vs. ManU so I can't speak for that one. It's interesting to me that you noticed it during that match though. During the early match I chalked it up to being caused by the way NBC was handling the world feed audio. As you noted though the late game was NBC's own feed and their own commentators, and the issue was apparently still there. It didn't bother me most of the time except for the odd shot where I could tell by the commentator what was going to happen a moment before the ball was struck.

As I thought previously, Spurs might lose Bale (for a good amount). But credit the club for doing its business prior.

So if you lose the player just prior to the deadline, your business was already done (i.e. Soldado and Co.).

Goodness me, Frank Lampard. Sensational free-kick goal. 2-0 Chelsea.

I know it's already been said, but I'm very much liking NBC's coverage of the EPL so far. Yeah, it's only the first weekend, but a very professional & efficient broadcast. Much better than FSC.

I really love the pace and incision that Chelsea is playing at.
Agreed. Really liked the tight passing between Torres, Oscar, Hazard & De Bruyne. They all played great today.

Super Frankie Lampard does it again. Legend
And to think he was all but done at Chelsea last season. Class player. Sensational strike for the free-kick goal. He hit it perfectly & although I think the goalie should've had it, it was still superb. Didn't miss by much an another free-kick late in the 2nd half.

Yep. If they want to even think about cracking the top 4 they'll need a big season from him.

But today I'm just going to enjoy the 3 points. :)

I don't think they are going to get rid of Suarez, not unless an offer comes from a team we are not going to have to play twice a year, and is going to raise their bid by one pound each time :p

Liverpool needs to play like hell over the next 5 games til he gets back though, I think Suarez will perform on the field, otherwise his value goes way down and that doesn't benefit him. Now I can see him doing something stupid when the summer trading window opens, unless LFC is in a serious position to make a run for #4.

Last year they looked to be in a good spot with 12 games left and then they went all Liverpool and lost to teams they should have beaten and drew a bunch of others :smash:

If you watch the Sunday night episode of "ESPNFC", actually good banter between Steve Nicol and Craig Burley. Lots of one-liners (like Barcelona was playing a team of waiters).

The 'trolling' still hasn't infiltrated the Euros associated with ESPN yet, so it's alright.

Not as much Premier League coverage, but they jumped around a lot during the hour. Good debut program (the Sunday hour-long one).
