Premier League (Official Thread)

Very short lived revenge for Callum McManaman as he is subbed off for an injury nine minutes after scoring. That three goals in three minutes explosion from Wigan came completely out of nowhere. Everton are utterly shell shocked.

Wigan up 3-0 at the half. All Wigan after the opener from Figueroa. Everton haven't found any answer to respond & are going to need something spectacular to save themselves from the embarrassment of losing at home.

Wigan are through. What an embarrassing FA Cup Quarter-final loss at home for Everton. They looked terrible today & that's being polite.

The loss of Timmy hurt them more then I thought it would.

Could've had something to do with it, but I think it was more of the team playing horrendous, than the goalie playing bad. He really didn't have a chance on the first one (Headed corner from point blank range), might've done better on the 2nd, but McManaman was basically on a breakaway and did well to beat the 'keeper, but really had no shot on the third, because it was excellently placed by Gomez. The whole team just played awful from start to finish, so I think it would be harsh to say one man was at fault here, when it was everyone's.

It's not just about shot stopping - I wouldn't discount the role of the goalkeeper in organizing the defense. That disorganization played a role in all three goals. Given that Howard had a pretty substantial streak of matches played, you have to wonder how prepared Mucha was for that portion of his responsibilities.

Very true. Distin, for example looked completely lost. Watched a replay of the first goal again & Mucha was battling for position & losing against the Wigan player at the goal line & had no idea where the ball was when it went in. Phil Neville practically gift wrapped the 2nd for McManaman though, so nothing much he could've done there, except make a remarkable one-on-one save, which he failed to do. Definitely could've been a factor on the Gomez goal though. He would've needed to make a world class dive to save that one, but the defensive organization was very poor there.

Two of the dumbest back passes you'll ever see spelled doom for Spurs today. One caught out Lloris coming off his line and the other led to Suarez winning a penalty. Spurs were in control of the match before the first one. It happens all the time in this game, but it's still amazing how one mistake can turn an entire match.

Thought AVB could have managed it a little better, but he was put in a bind with Aaron Lennon's injury. He moved Dembele out to the right, and Livermore was added to the central midfield. Dembele did as well as could be expected, but his skills were marginalized out there at times. Livermore was shit. Would have rather seen Holtby in his place.

Vertonghen was superb. Scored both goals for Spurs today and was their best defender too. Suarez was his usual self - elite player and elite jackass. Glad I don't have to hear the crowd at Anfied on my TV again for another season. It truly is the whiniest place on Earth.

The last league loss before this one for Spurs was clear back in December - the debacle at Everton. Merseyside has been a house of horrors for them this season, but there's room for optimism in the way things got straightened out after the last time something like this happened.

Only caught the last few minutes of the United-Chelsea game because I was watching the OSU game, but wow, what an ending. David de Gea made one of the most remarkable saves with his foot you'll ever see. Mata did wonderfully to set himself up just outside the six-yard box, only to be denied by the toe of de Gea. I was checking scores of this game & United were up 2-0 after 20 minutes or so, but apparently a non-stop Chelsea onslaught was what happened in the 2nd half. From the few minutes I was able to watch, I don't think United got out of there own half, but maybe twice.

Game finished 2-2 by the way.

I saw Steve McManaman doing studio work with Al-Jazeera (or BT Sports) in Europe. Good for him.

Now there's no ESPN in Europe, I'd hope ESPN allows both Ian Darke and Steve McManaman out of their contracts, since FOX/ESPN doesn't have Premier League rights anymore in the U.S.

Darke can't sit around for a year and not call games prior to the World Cup. And he's not going to call MLS games for ESPN. And NBC Sports already made a move for him to call EPL games.
