Predictions for 2014 season

9. This team will not win the Big Ten or even its division.

10. This team will lose a game it should not lose and it will resemble a game much like the Northwestern game last year, except the comeback will not be completed in time.

I think they'll lose to Sparty and then another game somewhere along the line they shouldn't. It's just a gut feeling for now.

1. I will consume absurd amounts of alcohol and hot wings.

2. I will hate M*ch*g*n with the fire and intensity of a dozen suns.

3. I will want to vomit when I see Ped State is fielding a team.

For me change #1 to I'll consume substantial amounts, downgraded slightly from absurd, and the rest is spot on.

I have one in the current theme I forgot.

I will not recall any of the gameday for the Minnesota game as I will be attending that with a good buddy who I haven't seen for 2 years. 5 months of planning= unable to walk by 230pm

These bolded statements aren't consistent with one another.

While I agree that the two will not happen this year, it is possible to win the division, despite losing to Michigan State. It just requires that Michigan State loses 2 other games that Ohio State doesn't. I don't see any other losses in the division for either team (though it certainly is possible), but Michigan State plays Nebraska. Ohio State plays Minnesota and Illinois, I believe. I don't know how good Nebraska is, or even if they host Michigan State or travel to East Lansing. But I gotta believe that that's tougher than Minnesota or Illinois. I don't know who the other cross-divisional team Michigan State plays. So that MAY make things more difficult for Sparty. But let's say that they lose one they shouldn't. If Ohio State loses to Sparty, Sparty is still in the title game. The winner of Ohio State-Michigan State would need to lose two games they shouldn't, and I don't see that happening.

But it's possible.

Of course it's possible. If OSU loses to MSU (which Mili says "may" happen), then it is very, very likely that OSU doesn't win the division (Mili says there is "no way" that happens). Hence the inconsistency.

1. I just don't see the talent anywhere else in the Big 10. Penn State has a solid passer, but no receivers and few back ups at any spot. Michigan State lost two lock down corners that made that defense work and I think they're questionable at QB. Wisconsin, maybe. Michigan has Gardner - is "streaky" an apt description? - and is counting on a lot of kids to play up - but so are the Buckeyes.

2. The Bucks DO have talent IMO. Some proven, some claimed on paper. I've loved Braxton at QB, but he has more than one downside and there is no Kenny Guiton sitting in the wings - unless Cardell has improved beyond what he was allowed to show in the spring game. On one hand the LB corps appears to be back to Buckeye standards, but they lost the only one who played up to said standards last year and they're counting on kids. Like Michigan's, the Buckeye DBs are newbies. Will new blood and a better scheme change the situation? Running back looks like it could turn into a love fest and the receivers should be up from a group that was OK - but just OK - last year.

3. I think there's more than one game breaker on this team. I'm believing what I read in the recruiting thread. I don't see anyone else in the Big Ten keeping up with the Bucks in recruiting. The Bucks may let one get away if the LBs and corners don't match their press clippings, but I see them in the CG and back in Pasadena. Why, 'cause Notre Dame, who could easily be conference champs after they play Michigan, Michigan state and Purdue, will hold their breath if they don't get the automatic bid to the playoffs.

I think it will take until midseason before someone not named Braxton steps up and really leads the offense as the go to guy ala Hyde last year. So many weapons..I think it will take a while for one or two of them to step up and GRAB a lot of touches..I think we will be spreading it around all over the place early as we work to get some consistency behind a rebuilt OL and a lot of new names stepping up to the first string.

I think the defense comes out motivated and pissed off from being a doormat down the stretch last year. I expect the DL to wreak much havoc and play nasty all year and I think the secondary is gonna be MUCH improved. Not convinced at LBer, but I think there will be less pressure on them thanks to the rocks up front and speed in the back.

I think the conference will be surprised at our D, but a but underwhelmed by our O until 4 or 5 games in..then we take off in a huge way. If we get through the first part of the schedule..and we should..I think we are a wrecking ball in October and November. I think we run the string and make the playoffs. From there..no way for me to predict. Kinda like a soccer game that goes to kicks..anything can and will happen....but I like our chances with Urban when it comes down to win or go home. Afterall, we had Florida outmanned and were poised to blow them out...but he flipped the script on us.

Half of BP will fill the Penn State game thread with 80 pages complaining about the referees.

The other half of BP will fill the general Penn State, State Penn, Misc ... thread with 10 pages mocking BWI posters complaining about the referees.
