Pre-season Top 5-10?

With one meaningful game remaining, I thought it would be interesting to see people's take on the pre-season top 5-10 poll for 2010-11. It could make a big difference to who may make the title.

Not sure I think that Texas or Boise should be ranked that high, but voters will.

Texas is probably too high considering what they'll lose. Oklahoma is better positioned next season given they suffered so many injuries this year, they gained a ton of experience on a season they punted away after Bradford went down. Landry Jones and his porn stache are RS Fr. I think the Big XII comes down to Nebraska/Oklahoma next season. I'd probably put both in the Top 10 and drop Ga Tech and Texas from your list. Va. Tech I'd guess will be around 4, ahead of Iowa and Boise.

My main issue is that USC has always started a top 10 team in the last 7-8 years.

I also think that between OSU, Iowa, Wisky, and Northwestern (yes I just wrote that) the Big Ten should be the strongest conference.

Bama loses something like 8 or 9 starters on defense including the entire d-line (Cody) and Javier Arenas.

Look how much we have returning...look who we have at QB...look at our schedule for goodness sakes...

I'll be THAT GUY and make the leap that nobody else wants to make...

I like us as preseason #1.

After that is irrelevant.

I'll also say that next season (if not January 7th) will be the beginning of the demise of the SEC.

Auburn will be back in the picture in the west, and a weaker/rebuilding Florida team will be the team to beat in the east.

The Big Ten might be looking at 5 in the preseason top 25 (with 3 possible in the top 10) and could be poised to make a run as the dominant conference for the first time in half a decade.

Oklahoma will be a sleeper (strange to say it, but I feel it to be true) in the Big XII. Texas will have to find a way to reload at QB, but I feel like with the major teams in the Big XII all rebuilding...they'll only have to worry about (wait for it) Nebraska...

...and maybe Texas Tech if Tuberville gets the job!

Brian Kelly IS the hot stuff everyone claims he is...and if he had coached this season's team, they'd have lived up to Lou Holtz's expectations.

Oregon should be the clear favorite in the Pac10, and Ga. Tech should be the leader in the clubhouse come the end of the ACC season. I like both of them to repeat in the Orange and Rose respectively.

Mark my words (and this post)...I don't make predictions often, but these seem too easy to not point out...

...a year from now I may be wrong, but if I am I'll be quite surprised.

After reading through this thread and seeing what all the other top teams are losing going into the 2010 season (except for us and Oregon), I don't see how we're not the pre-season #1 and Oregon #2.

Considering that Iowa returns virtually their entire team, even if we're ranked ahead of them they'll give us a really good run for our money in the conference. What's that you say? We play Penn State, at Iowa, and Michigan to close the season? That's your make or break stretch right there. Win those three and we'll find ourselves in great position. Otherwise...

People are in love with offense. For Alabama, they bring every important person back on offense so I am just guessing that if they win tomorrow that is how it may play out.

Yeah, and isn't there a requirement that, in the preseason, Notre Dame has to be ranked there too? Anyway that's what is in the commercial.

After reading through this thread and seeing what all the other top teams are losing going into the 2010 season (except for us and Oregon), I don't see how we're not the pre-season #1 and Oregon #2.

I'm not drinking the Oregon kool-aid. They do not have the depth or in the trenches "power" talent of the USCs, UFs, Texas, or OSUs of the world . . . and are far from being elite defensively. Also, Masoli isn't exactly a passing machine. I'm very happy with the Rose Bowl win, but I don't think the Bucks beat a real top 5 kind of team as opposed to one that overachieved via smoke and mirrors in a down conference.

I wouldn't sleep on FSU sans Bowden either.

Is Stanzi back at Iowa?

I have a hard time seeing them in the Top 5 at the beginning of the season, but with that defense, they could very well END the season in the top 5.

I'll also ditto some other posters that USC will likely fall SOMEWHERE in the top 10, and I assume Miami will too. I assume that tOSU will not start at #1...but certainly Top 5, which is just fine.
