...A better questions might be - who is 2010's Ole Miss? A team that ranked disgustingly too high and flops early and often

based on the bowl game last night, Gag Tech would be that flopper.

As much as it pains me to say, I'd go with Oregon.

Based on Kirk Ferentz's history, my guess would be Iowa. They should be a serious contender for the conference title; so a complete tank-job is a serious possibility.

It seems like LSU always gets one of the pre-season Top 10 considerations. They might sneak in there since Jefferson is returning.

What about Arkansas? If Mallet returns obviously, they will have alot of preseason buzz around them.

I may be in the minority, but I HATE being ranked high pre-season. So I am hoping that we lose enough defensive players and we get knocked down to tenth or something.

What I care about is where we are at the END of the season.

I could never, and never will, understand this thoroughly illogical though process. The higher we are ranked at the beginning the fewer we'll have to climb back over should we lose. Conversely, the lower we are ranked at the beginning the more difficult it will be to get back up into the NC picture should we lose.

And if you give me that tired "target on our back" reasoning I'll "ding you 'till you puke" so bad your great-grandkids will be nauseous when they come out of the womb...

I think if were 3rd 4th or 5th we'll be good for in the past years the #1 team hasn't gone to the National Championship

PSU is a borderline Top-10 team. I think an offseason of Big Ten conference love and the hype for the Alabama/PSU game falsely inflates PSU's preseason rank, and they wind up getting clipped in Week 2.

Enjoy giving Newsome his second career start in Tuscaloosa.

While that may be true (I never said nor implied that us being pre-season #1 would guanrantee us the NC), the higher we're ranked pre-season the more "recovery room" we have for a loss.

1. Bama (but this depends on defections to come)
2. OSU
3. Boise
4. Iowa
5. Oregon

Yes, except Boise. They might get into the to 10, but not #3. Watch out for USC just because they are always overrated at the start of the season. Also watch out for Va Tech getting the Tyrod Taylor/Frank Beamer boost into the top five.

I hear ya, I hear ya. It's just that if you are ranked 3d, then you get headlines like "#3 OSU Struggles to put away Miami 37-14"... instead of "#12 OSU demolishes #7 Miami".

6 of one, half dozen of the other thing...

And anyway, if we start the season ranked 25th, and we are undefeated after the scUM game, you think we wouldn't get in the NC game? After going undefeated in the Big Ten and beating Cryami?

So just my personal quirk but I do NOT want to be pre-season top 5.

My great grandchildren thank you for your time!
