Mom: Michael Floyd to play in fall

Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd will remain in school and play football this season, his mother, Theresa Romero, said late Friday.
Romero said Floyd told her Friday afternoon that Notre Dame's Office of Residence Life, the school's disciplinary arm, rendered a decision on his future at the school that was positive and he'll be able to stay by fulfilling certain obligations. The Office of Residence Life could have suspended Floyd for a semester.
"Michael feels blessed for the opportunity," Romero said.
Floyd was suspended by coach Brian Kelly March 21 after being cited for drunken driving, with authorities saying his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. He still is scheduled for a court date May 2.
It is unknown if Floyd faces further punishment from Kelly.
It was Floyd's third run-in with the law because of alcohol since 2009. Floyd was cited for underage alcohol consumption on May 15, 2009, and later pleaded guilty. He also was cited for underage drinking in Minneapolis on Jan. 8, 2010, not far from his hometown of St. Paul.

Just sayin'

Quite possibly Floyd has a serious "alcohol addiction problem" here and needs help. Maybe his mother needs to be more concerned in getting and keeping him "sober" than his playing football in the fall.

Wow. That's all I can say.

That goes to show you the power that a school like ND has. They've got the $$$ and the weight to throw around, even though they haven't been relevant in years as a football team.

Had this been Texas, the same thing would have happened. In fact, you hardly EVER hear about UT having issues like this. Go figure.

Perhaps the conditions of his return has something to do with going through rehab. Hopefully, because alcohol addiction is no simple thing to beat.

Arkansas LB Rasner busted on drug, alcohol charges

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas linebacker Ross Rasner has been arrested on drug and alcohol charges.

Washington County Jail records show that Rasner was arrested early Friday by University of Arkansas police and booked into the county jail at 1:22 a.m.

The records say the 19-year-old Rasner was charged with possession of a controlled substance and being a minor in possession of alcohol. The circumstances of his arrest are not included in the records.

Kevin Trainor, spokesman for Arkansas athletics, said a statement about Rasner's arrest would likely be issued later Friday by the football program.

Interviewed this week at the Razorbacks' spring practice, Rasner said he was getting first-team reps as a strongside linebacker.

I don't see any reason to think he has an alcohol addiction. He's in college. It seems that he just makes poor decisions while under the influence, which is another problem entirely..

UGA locker room thieves arrested, identified as ‘football recruits’ from Carver-Columbus

9:19 am April 18, 2011, by Chip Towers

Three suspects have been arrested in the Georgia locker room thefts and the individuals were football recruits, UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson confirmed on Monday.

Deion Bonner, Marquis Hawkins and an unidentified juvenile from Columbus were arrested by UGA police and charged with theft by taking over the weekend. They’re accused of stealing iPods and iPhones from the unsecured lockers of seven football players on April 7 during an open-house event at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. The estimated value of the stolen items was $1,330.

Bonner was charged with one count of theft by taking, Hawkins was charged with two counts of theft by taking and the unidentified juvenile with three counts of theft by taking, according to Williamson. The crimes are misdemeanors.

Bonner, a 5-11, 185-pound defensive back from Carver-Columbus, is considered one of the top defensive backs in the state for the Class of 2012 and was included among the AJC’s “Tentative Top Ten” prospects for next season. Hawkins (6-1, 192) plays quarterback at Carver and is considered a top wide receiver prospect for 2013.

Asked how the suspects were nabbed, Williamson said, “good investigation, people’s involvement and Facebook is always a big help.”

Williamson said police were able to obtain search warrants on the three suspects last week. http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog...ball-recruits/

This is the only true benefit I see with "social" media: Dumbasses will always incriminate themselves publicly.

Oregon quarterback Dustin Haines is suspended after being arrested by Eugene police

Oregon has suspended quarterback Dustin Haines after he was arrested and charged with resisting arrest early Saturday morning by Eugene police responding to reports of a loud party.

"Yeah, he's suspended until we figure out what's going on,'' coach Chip Kelly said after Monday's practice.

Police say Haines became hostile and scuffled with officers. He was charged with with excessive noise, interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest.

Former UO running back Brandon Thurston also was cited for noise, a police spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said Haines was taken to Lane County jail. He posted bail and was released on Saturday.

The 6-foot-3, 204-pound sophomore is a graduate of South Eugene High School. He appeared in four games last season. He had two carries, one pass reception and did not throw a pass.

2 things

#1 This was probably all a misunderstanding. These kids probably had just been to Auburn the week before and just assumed that any expensive items sitting in a locker room that they were mysteriously left alone to wander through was theirs for the taking. Much more plausible deniability then straight handing out gym bags filled with cash.

#2 The real "lol" part of this story is when they find out that that this was actually the 2nd time that this stuff was stolen..
