Pittsburgh Penguins (Official Thread)

Got a point in Carolina. If we come away with a W against Florida today, I'll be happy with how the weekend went.

Is it time for Sidney Crosby to pick on Jay Bouwmeester again? I think so.

Every great forward picks a stud defenseman to be pick on. For Lemieux, it was Ray Bourque. How ballsy do you have to be to make Raymond Bourque your whipping boy? For Crosby, I think it's Bouwmeester.

Pens clinched a playoff spot last night with a win vs Tampa. Game turned ugly in the 3rd period as both teams were hitting and that lead to alot of scrums and fights. Game was in the bag until pens reverted to early season form and gave up 3 goals in a matter of minutes. As of now the Pens would play NJ in the 1st round.

Malkin with 2 pp assists maintains his 2 point advantage over Ovechkin in the points race with only 2 games left.

Interesting article. There's a comment that I think I like more, though..

Actually, the statistics don't tell a different story. The statistics say these teams are better off.

Using the same metric, there have been 327 teams without 2+ 100 point scorers, those teams have won 18 cups or 5.5%.

I'd take my 16% chance over the 5.5% chance.

Furthermore, you look at 22 years and say that teams with 2+ 100 point scorers win the cup "only" 16% of the time. But only half of those years (87,88,89,90,91,92,93,96,99,06,07) had a team entered with 2+ 100 point scorers. In those 11 years, 4 times one of the teams with 2+ 100pt scorers won the cup (36%)...

So when one or more teams are in the playoffs with 2 scorers with 100+ pts one of them wins 36% of the time.

In your analysis it would be impossible to have 100% success, for example in 1987-88 there were 4 teams with 2+ 100 point scorers and only one of them could win.

I've only had the opportunity to watch the Pens a few times since they switched coaches, but I love the way they're playing. Super aggressive and fast. They're attacking and know exactly where they each are and need to be. It's so fun to watch. They are simply dominating possession in this game.

Eaton just made a fantastic defensive play.

Hartnell just hit Fleury after a whistle. Should be a penalty IMO. Hartnell is a piece of shit.

EDIT: It was a penalty. Announcers are saying it was questionable, but Hartnell didn't do anything to try and stop. Looked like he was a little excessive to me.
