Pittsburgh Penguins (Official Thread)

Interesting trade. I expected a move for a center but I'll take a scorer like Neal. I'm going to take the lack of a move at center to suggest the Pens expect Syd and Letestu back in March. We'll see...

Well, I think it's just as much for next year as it is this year.

I don't think we'll be winning the cup without Malkin anyways. But if Sid comes back, there's always a chance with him and our defense. MAF has been unbelievable lately too.

Pens picked up Kovalev for a conditional 7th round pick today. It'll be a 6th rounder if they win a series in the playoffs.

I take this as a sign that Sid will be back at some point. Good news. The lineup would look pretty good right now if everyone was healthy.. but we just lost Orpik for 4-6 weeks due to a broken finger. Over 56% of the cap is injured right now.

I'm hoping this is what the playoff lineup will be..

Neal - Crosby - Kennedy
Kunitz - Staal - Kovalev
Cooke - Jeffery - Dupuis
Rupp - Letestu - Adams

Orpik - Letang
Martin - Michalek
Niskanen/Lovejoy - Engellend

Something like that.. with the bottom 6 being any combination of those players really. Everyone in the bottom 6 except Cooke can and has played center. I think Crosby and Neal should play together, and Kennedy would compliment the two well (kind of like a Kunitz on the RW). Staal and Kunitz are both defensively responsible enough to cover for Kovalev, and Kovalev adds some needed skill and finish to that line. I think it would mesh well.

Talbot's role on this team is pretty much non-existent right now, to be blunt. Love the guy, but I'm not sure where he fits.

Kovalev scores his first goal for the Pens since 2003. :banger:

He follows it up with the only goal in the shootout for the win.

Not bad for an old guy the Pens got back for practically nothing.

Pens playing without Malkin and Crosby for most of 2011 but still in contention. Malkin is done for the season, but Crosby could still return. He better, if the Pens have any hope of making a legit playoff run.

There are rumors that Cindy's father is trying to stamp out that his son is seriously contemplating retirement.

while my feelings are mixed about how that would affect the league, that would be devastating for the Pens.

Har har har :p - Nah just kidding. That would totally suck losing your best player at essentially the beginning of his career.

He isn't going to retire, that's the biggest crock of shit I've read in a while. He was shooting around with the team today and has been at the facilities more recently. I wouldn't be surprised if he was out for the year, but I'd also be surprised if he didn't come back at some point.

I think so too....I don't know where the rumor actually came from, but I read it on SI.com earlier.

Video of the hit in case anyone hasn't seen it.

He's at the 14 game suspension stage now and it isn't like he'll stop being a dirty bastard when he gets back.

We should get a vbet going; will his career end at the hands of the NHL front office or another player tired of him constantly trying to injure people?

Pittsburgh Penguins F Matt Cooke suspended for the rest of the NHL season and the first round of the playoffs.

I'm a Pens fan, and I'm tired of Matt Cooke. Unfortunately, he crossed the line between "gritty" and "dirty" awhile ago and shows no signs of coming back. They aren't winning anything this season, with or without him. I'd prefer to see him gone next season.

Of course, I also suspect that the resident fans of the hockey team from TSUN would be defending him to the end if he wore an ugly red sweater with a fucking feather on it.
