it's all going to depend on how well the irish can slow down pitt's run game. they are one dimensional but there one dimension is pretty good. if nd can stop the rbs, then they will win. if they can't then they will lose. i give the irish the advantage because they are at home.

i was referring to ray graham. before the season, many people said he was one of the top backs in the nation. he has rushed for 100 per game so far and is averages 9.5 per carry. against miami, he had 100 yards on only 14 carries. he's a stud.LitlBuck;1787106; said:I thought you might give them the advantage because no coach likes to lose 4 games in a row

Graham is good, but anyone can pound on New Hampshire and Florida International. Wouldn't be surprised to see him have a good game against ND, but he isn't exactly a world beater I don't think, though we'll see going forward.

The media is calling this a revenge game for Pitt since BK spoiled their chance at the Big East title last year at Cinci. That seems a bit of a stretch, especially since Notre Dame has nothing to do with the Big East in football, sounds like media adding drama. In any case, the 3 game losing skid came to a halt, so I'm hoping team confidance is on the way back up. The team looked slightly more like a Spread offense last week as Crist was moving around on the field a bit again. They had him run an option for a TD, which is the first time they've called a designed option that I've seen since he got the concussion against Michigan. You really kind of need that QB scrambling threat in the Spread, the offense suffered without it the last few weeks.
Despite BC rotating through a few QBs and having a good RB in Montel Harris, they held the BC ground game to 5 total yards rushing after TFL, Harris had only 28 yards on 15 carries. He didn't do well against the Irish last year either though, despite having 1400 yards for the season. BC's offensive line isn't there currently. I expect Pitt to run the ball much better against the Irish, Lewis scorched us for 150 yards last year on 21 carries. Graham also broke one for 53 yards last year. I expect Diaco to stack the box and try to make Pitt throw instead.
I'll be in the stands for this one, might be the last one I'll get to this year with a kid on the way in December, things are getting busy. This game is going to be all about the trenches I think. If ND gets dominated like they did against Stanford, it'll be no contest. Pitt took Utah into overtime, so despite being 2-2 and not being as good as they have been in years past, they're still going to be more than a match.

Definitly not a great victory, but then again any victory is great for this team this decade. They've still got a long way to go.Just got up after a long ride back from South Bend last night. It was like deja vu seeing this game. The team came out so damn flat at halftime again after going up 17 - 3 at halftime and at one point they were 20 - 3, yet they let Pitt back into the game in the second half. The kicker received the player of the game honors, having hit all 3 of his kicks with one at 50+ yards (He's currently at 16 straight kicks for his career). The fact the kicker wins the honors kind of tells how this game went. No one on the offense really shined, and while the defense played well despite two blown plays, no one defensive player stood out as the MVP.
I'd have to say that this is one of the first games in awhile the defense has really stepped up and kept us in this one. When Pitt started to come back, I had a bad feeling our defense would fold considering how long they had played by the 4th quarter. They got two stops at the end of the game however, and sent the 'stache packing for home. I think our defense did a pretty good job bottling up the Pitt running game. They held Lewis and Graham to 100 yards combined rushing after giving up 200 last year. They had a few good break aways, and I'm surprised Pitt didn't try to run more. Stacking the box lead to giving up a lot of pass plays however, and that forced Pitt to throw for 270 yards. I'll take a win however we can get it.
We really shot ourselves in the foot in this game though. We had two huge TD plays to Floyd get called back and it ended up stalling both drives. On one pass it got called back for holding, and the other was some illegal pick play by Theo Riddick and I'm not even sure it would have changed the outcome of the play. I let that call go, but I think the Big East blew the call in Pitt's own endzone in the 4th quarter. Pitt dropped back to pass, ND's defense blitzed and Pitt's QB Sunseri threw the ball into the ground in their own endzone with only linemen in that area. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that intentional grounding in the endzone and should be a Safety? I've heard fans boo calls by refs many times, usually in displeasure and they quickly silence themselves, but this went on for quite a while. Other than stupid penalties we had some other boneheaded plays as well. Mike Ragone dropped a wide open pass that would have given us a first down and probably ended the game, Crist missed a number of open receivers with errant passes in the 2nd half, and Saftey Harrison Smith would have had an INT that would have ended the game however replay showed he dropped the pass at the end.
It was a tiring game, just glad they came away with a victory. I'm looking for the ND offense to find some kind of consistency against some of the easier opponents in the coming weeks with Western Michigan and Tulsa coming up.

That would be a safety if they called grounding. IIRC, there was a back on the goal line that was somewhat in the direction of the ball, but I think Pitt got away with one there.
