Pirates tidbits (2013)

Can they fall fast enough and far enough to get passed by even Arizona and knocked out of the playoffs? that series coming up with the diamondbacks might end up being huge.

First game:

Pirates 6, Arizona 2

I know some folks can't wait for the collapse (including some Pirates fans), but I'll tell you what I told some friends yesterday.

A couple weeks ago the Bucs won 4 of 5 versus St. Louis and took over first place, 1.5 games ahead of the red birds. Fans were losing their minds with glee. Today, after a losing road trip, they lead the division by 3 games.

So while "falling" they managed to increase their lead in the division, and are 9 games ahead of Arizona.

Byrd hits a 3 run tater in his first game as a Pirate as the Bucs beat Milwaukee, 7-1. Charlie Morton may finally be turning into the guy Pittsburgh thought he would be, having allowed 2 earned runs or less in 9 of his 14 starts since returning from Tommy John.

Big series versus the Cards this weekend, but another one against the Brewers tomorrow first. :pirate:

Pirates reclaim NL Central lead, two wins away from first winning season since 1992

Behind another strong start from Charlie Morton and a three-run home run from Neil Walker, the Pirates defeated the Brewers 5-2 at Miller Park this afternoon. The Cardinals lost to the Reds earlier in the day, which means that the Pirates now have a one-game lead in the National League Central.

With today’s win, the Pirates now sit at 80-57 on the season. They only need two more wins for their first winning season since 1992. While that will be an important benchmark for the franchise, they have bigger goals in mind at this point.

With 9 games to play the Cardinals lead the Pirates by 1 game and the Reds by 2 games. This division is ridiculous.
