Pirates tidbits (2013)

The Buccos win a 14 inning, rain-delayed marathon over the Brewers - their former nemesis - to sweep the series and extend their winning streak to 9 games.

At the halfway mark the Pirates are 51-30, the best record in baseball. :pirate1:

As it seems the Reds have decided to pack their weak ass shit up and call it a season, I wish nothing but the best for you guys.

God knows you've suffered long enough.

Bucs definitely need to improve on their batting average with RISP. The current .229 is not going to be good enough over 162 games.

56 wins at the AS break is the second highest total in team history, although this "first half" was a few games longer than usual. Only the '71 champions had more wins at the break (57). Bucs need another bat - preferably in RF or 1B - and another arm or two for the bullpen as guys wear down in the second half. Run production needs to improve, too many 2-3 run performances to maintain a .600 pace.

Still, it beats the shit out of being 10 games under .500.

I know a lot of fans in other places are waiting for the Pirates to collapse but they lead MLB in team ERA and opponents' batting average at the end of July. They also have the best record in baseball after sweeping a double header from the Cardinals. :)

It's funny how much more enjoyable baseball is when your team actually wins. Pitching has been GREAT all year. Still think they need a bat or 2, but hope they don't have to sacrifice the minor league depth they built to get it.

1st Place Pittsburgh Pirates, has a nice ring to it :pirate2:

Josh Harrison delivers the first pinch hit, walk off homer since 2001 as the Bucs rally from 3-0 down to knock off the Marlins, 4-3.

At 68-44, it's the most the Pirates have been over .500 this season (and at least 20 years).

Bucs get their 70th win, 28th in come from behind fashion and 9th of the walk off variety, 5-4 over the Marlins in 10 innings.

That's a series sweep and a 9-2 home stand. Go fucking figure.

The Keystone Kops showed up in Denver, spending the weekend playing the kind of shitty baseball Pirates fans have seen all too often the past 20 years. :bonk:

Not exactly rolling into this week's series against the Cardinals.
