Pirates tidbits (2012 season)

Through 4 games:

All four games have been decided by one run (2-2)
Bucs are 2-0 in extra innings
The 2 losses have come against Halladay and Kershaw

Probably about as good as could reasonably be expected, so far.

After dropping the first five in California - typical - the Buccos rallied to win 3 of the last 4 of the trip and take a series in Arizona.

5-7 through 12, flying home on a good note.

AJ Burnett makes his Bucco debut and pitches 7 innings of shut out baseball. The pen made it stand and former Indian Jake Westbrook takes the loss, 2-0. :)

Jake: Pedro Alvarez = failed experiment?

Not sure how the #2 overall pick in a draft is a "failed experiment", considering the #1 overall pick in that draft hasn't reached the majors. The #3 pick, Eric Hosmer is doing okay but the #4 pick (Matusz) has an ERA over 5.5, the 6th pick hasn't played an MLB game and the 8th pick (Beckham) isn't doing a thing for the ChiSox. Only Buster Posey (#5) has shown anything but he's coming back from a major injury, so we'll see.

I love Brewers fans. Your team can beat the Pirates - congratulations. Wake me up when they actually win something, rather than piss away their rare playoff appearances to the Cardinals like they did in the '82 WS and in last year's playoffs. :roll2:

I was legitimately asking, not trolling. I only ask because I've heard some say he'd be better served with maybe a stint at AAA, Keith Law included.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions. I've dealt with Brewers trolls before and thought I smelled another one.

I would've started him at AAA this season, given his Spring looked a lot like last season. But he only has one option left and management is adamant it wouldn't help because the pitching isn't as good there. He has to figure it out at the MLB level. I disagree, but what the hell do I know about it that Clint Hurdle wouldn't know, I guess.

Through 15 games the Bucs led the league in team ERA. Let that sink in for a moment...Pirates...best team ERA. Unfortunately, they were dead last in runs scored. That one is easily absorbed - 30 stinkin' runs in 15 games. Amazingly, they managed to go 6-9.

Last night they improved to 7-9 as they beat Colorado 5-4, a veritable offensive explosion.

Today's game was an excellent example of the above general theme--pitching only gives up 2 runs, but the Bucs can only muster 1 of their own, losing 2-1. Geez.

Yep. Rockies didn't have a hit until the 7th inning, and got 3 for the game. Pedro managed to hit a HR, but of course no one was on base. :shake:

Bucs take the rubber match from Colorado, 5-1. Another strong pitching performance and this time they made it count. :)

The Pirates are 9-2 in games where they score 2 or more runs. That's some good pitching.

Unfortunately, they're 0-9 when they score fewer than 2 runs. That's some bad hitting.
