Pirates tidbits (2012 season)

what a fucking throw!

:yow1:

We used to sit in right field often in Three Rivers, so we got to see him show off that arm at every opportunity. Parker also won a couple of batting titles and a WS ring with the Bucs.

Those were the days...

Wow, someone out there really hates the poor Buccos. This schedule has "buried by the end of April" written all over it. Off the top of my head I'll say 7-15, at best, but that may be a tad optimistic. :shake:

I thought the same thing when the schedule was released. If they are anywhere close to .500 come May it will be miraculous.

My memories of Parker are through my baseball card collection (im 34) and his days in cinn. I never realized just how good he was until I got older and started seeing clips like that one. Damn im still marveling at the throw...

Pedro Alvarez has one option left. He should start the season at AAA where he can play everyday, work with coaches, and not drag the Bucs down with him. He's batting less than .200 this Spring with 1 walk and 21 strike outs. In other words, he picked up where he left off last year.

Casey McGehee and Josh Harrison can handle third while Garrett Jones and Matt Hague take care of first. Hague hit .330 in AAA last year and has had a great Spring. He should make the roster and Alvarez goes to work in AAA.

But so far the Bucs haven't indicated they will take that approach. I'm afraid they will insist on making Pedro the 3rd baseman, and he'll be a big part of a terrible April against a difficult schedule. That would be consistent with how they've operated the last 20 years and clinch Alvarez as one of the biggest busts during that time. :shake:

Not surprised Halladay shut out the Bucs but somewhat pleased that Bedard held the Phillies to one run. Unfortunately, they only needed one.

Halladay gave up 2 hits to the first 2 batters of the game and then nothing the rest of the 8 he pitched...no shame in getting blitzed by the master at work.

I know there are a fair amount of Phillies fans in PNC but the Pirates have sold out their first two home games of the season for the first time in team history. Imagine the fan support if the Bucs can actually be competitive this season. I remember when I lived closer to Pittsburgh we would go to the second game of the season because - after the opening game sellout - there would be about 10,000 in the house, making traffic and tickets a lot easier.

I'm just glad I can get most of the games on TV these days because from 75 miles away my trips to the Burgh are less frequent.

So how did the Bucs do in those 2 sell outs?

Well, they tied the Phillies 2-2 over 19 innings, and went 1-1. Not too bad when you consider they faced Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee.

Rubber match tomorrow.

Bucs rally from 4-1 down for another walk off win to take 2 of 3 from the Phillies, 5-4. :banger:
Nice!

Way to go Buccos! Between my late aunt covering them way back in the 70's (I believe- one of the earlier woman sportscasters) and now the local Indy Indians being their farm team, I definitely hold a place for the Pirates.
