If you didn?t already think the people behind the RIAA and MPAA were insane, we?re positive that your opinion on them will change as soon as your read what the two associations have proposed in a recent letter to the Office of Intellectual Property Enforcement. Here are but some of the changes the two have asked for:

The installation of spyware on computers which would seek out and automatically delete illegally obtained media

Censorship of the internet which would block the transfer of illegal files

Giving border guards the authority to search one?s tech gear for illegal files

The lobbying of foreign governments to follow suit

Having the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security

actively and swiftly enforcing copyright laws

I always knew the Zetas along the Laredo TX/Nuevo Laredo border were bad news ... smuggling their MP3s into this country. Thank God the border patrol will finally have the authority to stop this music trafficking.

LimeWire, a popular peer-to-peer filesharing service, faces closure - Telegraph

A US Federal Court ruled in favour of the RIAA, saying that LimeWire’s users “commit a substantial amount of copyright infringement” and that the company’s owners have not done enough to stop users sharing movies, music and software illegally online.

LimeWire founder, Mark Gorton, has been found personally guilty of committing copyright infringement, engaging in unfair competition and inducing copyright infringement, according to court records reviewed by technology site, CNET.

The RIAA, which represents the four major labels: Warner, Universal Music, Sony and EMI, is now demanding $150,000 for every single copyright violation. The number of violations the RIAA is expected to claim for is believed to reach into the millions.

CNET said that the "logical next step" for the RIAA was to ask for an injunction and force LimeWire to stop its file-sharing functionality.

LimeWire is strongly opposing the judge’s ruling and issued the following statement: “LimeWire remains committed to developing innovative products and services for the end-user and to working with the entire music industry, including the major labels, to achieve this mission.”

The RIAA presented evidence which showed that 93 per cent of a random sample of 1,800 files available free of charge on LimeWire were copyrighted.

The judge has called for a status conference on June 1 which will provide more detail on the likely damages and injunctions.

The case is set to pose a major threat to online filesharing and become a landmark judgement, which could have a major impact on other players in this space.

The RIAA brought the charges against LimeWire in August 2006.

Rapidshare is the most popular. There are a lot of them,but this is just particularly what I use.

Didn't PirateBay just lose a pretty big lawsuit? It's still up and running. It was down for a few days though. O noez
