Piracy, RIAA, Lawsuits

The RIAA's Pathetic Excuse For Their $9 Million Piracy Acts

Those nauseating RIAA hypocrites were caught illegally downloading $9 million on TV shows. Now they are giving the same pathetic excuse given to them by the people they accused of pirating songs: "someone was using our IP address."

Somebody please make these sanctimonious pretenders walk the plank.

Talking to CNET, RIAA said that "those partial IP addresses are similar to block addresses assigned to RIAA. However, those addresses are used by a third party vendor to serve up our public Web site. As I said earlier, they are not used by RIAA staff to access the Internet."

The fact is that the IP address are not "similar to block addresses assigned to RIAA." They are assigned to the RIAA, period.

...

And who the hell gives a third party the use of your organization's IPs?

But don't worry, we will give you the benefit of the doubt even if it's a bullshit excuse. The same benefit of the doubt that you gave to those who used the same pathetic reply, the people you sued into oblivion.

The same RIAA who has for years been crusading against Internet piracy and suing people for absurd amounts of money has been caught downloading full seasons of Dexter. Let?s see, roughly 60 episodes of Dexter at a fine of $150,000 each- that?s $9 million! Somehow ?whoops? doesn?t quite say it. A new website entitled Youhavedownloaded.com popped up with a handy tool that lists all the torrent related activity on your IP address. Youhavedownloaded is boasting that it has information on more than 50 million users, and unfortunately for the RIAA, they are part of that statistic. BitTorrent news site, ?TorrentFreak? used this handy new tool and conducted a little research of their own, leading to the discovery of 6 unique addresses from inside the RIAA where copyrighted material was downloaded. So what are the people responsible for suing a Minnesota mother for close to $2 million for downloading 24 songs from Kazaa downloading?

If we were still following the RIAA?s punishment plan for pirating, then they could lose their Internet privileges. How will you get your new Yeezy and Hova tracks then? As if this isn?t enough of a fantastic early Christmas present, the Department of Homeland Security is also joining the RIAA on the ?Do as we say, not as we do? podium. According to TorrentFreak, they found, ?more than 900 unique IP-addresses at the Government organization through which copyrighted files were downloaded.?

Why is it that the RIAA is so worried about movie piracy, yet aren't worried about music piracy. IMO, you're never going to be able to stop either, so why waste time, money, and resources fighting a battle you can't win? (hello war on drugs)

I think you are a bit confused here. The RIAA doesn't care about movie piracy. They are the Recording Industry Association of America. They are only about music companies and music piracy. They stopped suing people after they sued some people for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some innocent and some where it was maybe a few songs. They didn't like the backlash and stopped.

Movie piracy lawsuits are sort of all over the place, and many done by that shady group out of DC called the US Copyright Group. They are even worse. What they do is legal extortion. "Pay us $1500 now, or go to court where it will cost more even if you are innocent." Outside of that movie studios have convinced the US government to go after streaming sites, but that is an even longer story.
