I haven't been a big Mullens fan, and you know i love the Suns... but, let's not forget that just about 7-8 months ago he was predicted as a top 3 pick. The kid is an athlete, the Suns system could be a good fit for him to blossom in.

and the DOW was trading 12,000 too!

he's gotta put on about 40 pounds and grow a pair before i jump on the bandwagon. he got abused by 6'8" corn fed white boys in the B10. how is he going to prosper in the NBA?

i'm really joking around a lot here. who knows with these guys right?

I think for what's out there at pick 14, it's a good investment. We have zero size again now Shaq is gone... Robin Lopez never showed physical play, and was called out all year for that. Personally I like James Johnson and Dejuan Blair... they may be off the board, and Blair isn't the best fit for our system. Earl Clark is ok, but I feel he would be an average role player, and isn't an in the paint guy... and no shot I want skinny ass Austin Daye. So, needing a big man that can run the court, with a franchise that is boderline rebuilding mode... Mullens is a decent gamble.

i will defer to you on these matters since you have definitely shown that you know your stuff over the years. either way, it will probably be a miracle if they make the playoffs.

If the deal had Biedrins, Wright, Belinelli and Curry for Stat, that would be pretty crazy. That's 4 first round picks for Amare. I'd imagine the Suns would send something else that way. I didn't like the deal when it wasn't showing Curry included.... but with him, I kinda like it. He's a starter from day one with Nash in the backcourt. Pack your bags J-Rich.

Sounds like the deal will be for Curry, Biedrins and either Wright or Belinelli. I doubt the Suns get all 4 of them unless they throw in J-Rich or Barbosa.

I hope the Suns keep Barbosa.

It will be interesting to see what the Suns look like next year after all these trades. They're probably going to miss the playoffs again.

they still botched a championship team after an over-reaction to a series they should have won in the Western Conference Finals.

Steve Kerr has ruined that team, under extreme pressure to relieve the team of financial obligations. So I'll give him a slight pass, but the line-up of Nash, Stat, Bell, Marion, and Diaw was money. Especially for that style of play.

I will just never understand the philosophy change, forcing D'Antoni out, and trading for Shaq. It was odd, poorly thought out, and now leaves a once consistent winner in shambles.

There is so much appeal to having a fast break team in Phoenix, with a coach set on taking a high percentage shot in les sthan 7 seconds. It just made sense....it's unfortunate a good NBA city will now be left with a team stuck in the lottery for 2-3 years.

This is the shit that happens when you let two guys from UofA run the show. Robert Sarver (owner) and Kerr are both UofA grads. I'm surprised they didn't choose Jordan Hill and Chase Budinger as their first two picks.

A little late in starting the season thread. I know we have Reagdog, fourteenandoh and a couple other Suns fans.

This year's team has me about as hopeful since the days of Joe Johnson, Tim Thomas and Marion. Obviously they have already started hot with 8-1 record, while taking out good teams such as Boston, Miami and now New Orleans. A very athletic team with range, and great role players. They have a good blend of veterans in Grant Hill and Steve Nash to go along with young guys like Jared Dudley and Channing Frye.

Starters:

Amare Stoudamire- Let's face it, without the injuries... Amare could have easily been considered one of the top 3 or 4 players in the league. He's back and says he feels 100%, add the fact that it's a contract year...and we should continue to see bigger things from Stat.

Steve Nash
- I'm always hot/cold with Nasher. He sometimes plays reckless and tries to do too much, hopefully with a more jelled team and back to playing run and gun stylem he will concentrate more on dishing and executing.

Jason Richardson
- People have always had bad things to say about J-Rich, but he's never been in the best of situations. Last year was a failure because he wasn't used by Porter the way Kerr had intended. He has been lights out from 3 pt this year, as he has in the past. Should be the team leader in scoring, and will be playing the style he excels at the most. Possible most improved player here... watch out.

Channing Frye
- Such a huge signing that wasn't as big of a headline. Channing returns home to Phoenix after a dissappointing stint in Portland. Gives more room for Amare to work with in the paint as opposed to Shaq, and is one of top 3pt shooters for big men this season. Great fit as a "Center" in this style of play. Another candidate for most improved... probably more so than Richardson.

Grant Hill-
Gotta love the fact that he turned down other offers to stay in Phoenix. Healthiest he's been in his career, for the first time in his career, he didn't miss a game last season. Such a talented team player that can do it all. Works with the younger players a lot too, which is huge. Great Veteran presence.

Bench:

Lou Amundson
- A fan favorite, just a junk yard dog... will do whatever needs to be done, and always plays with a full motor.

Jared Dudley- TGIG, thank god for Gentry. Wasn't given a chance to show everyone why he was a ACC player of the year in college before he played for Alvin. This kid has a ton of talent, and a bright future, couldn't be happier for a guy.

Earl Clark- Earned MVP of Vegas Summer League. Long and athletic player that in time will be counted on to be our shut down defender. I saw in a post summer league draft rating, Clark was a hailed a top 5 pick by a group of GMs.

Lenardo Barbosa- Starter that comes off the bench. Easily can put up 30 points a game, but is ok with his role. His name has always been brought up in trade rumors, but he's not going anywhere.

Goran Dragic
- Nash's future replacement. Goran had a rough rookie year IMO, but seems to be finally coming around. He's getting quality minutes and finally picking up the system.

Other than that Robin Lopez (injured), Alando Tucker, Taylor Griffin and Jarron Collins (temporaily) make up the rest of the bench.

All in all, they are a better defensive team than they've been the past 3-4 years with guys like Lou, Jared and Earl. This team will average 120 points a night and is explosive.... 3 pointers will rain.

Jump on board... they're back, and with less expectations and pressure as in the past. They love playing with each other, and everyone seems to be having fun playing under Alvin Gentry. No more hack a Shaq, thank god. I predict a 4 seed, while most analysts are calling them a 7 or 8.

Great post Starbucks. The only preseason talk about the Suns was about how they aren't contenders anymore. I definitely had my doubts as well, but they are playing very well.

I'm not going to get my hopes up too high yet, but they seem to really enjoy playing together and the team chemistry is said to be phenomenal off the court.

Dudley is the steal of the J-Rich for Boris Diaw and Raja Bell trade. The guy just does everything and he's probably my team favorite right now.

The Lakers game tonight should be fun to watch.

Alvin Gentry has preached just enough defense to make a difference and I think he's doing a great job.
