PG Mike Conley (1st Team All BIG, NBA All-Star, Oscar Winner, Minnesota Timberwolves)

Great perspective, my take is that he's just tellin him what they wanna hear. He could see himself playin at Wake Forest, is somethin that came to my attention. I am pretty sure he could see himself playin at tOSU

Indianapolis (IN) Lawrence North point guard Mike Conley said "things went very well at Wake Forest" shortly after his first official visit was over this weekend. Now it is on to Ohio State in May, as the race is down to two for Rivals.com's sixth-ranked point guard in the country.

Conley says the visit went very well. Conley says that both schools are "pretty even". He will visit OSU and then decide soon after.

You gotta love the fact that right after his visit to Wake he's saying that both teams are "pretty even."
I try not to read between the lines when recruits do interviews especially after a visit and the interview is done by the visiting school because the majority are slanted and the recruit is given leading questions.

Now, after saying that and reading Conley's comments about his visit. I am still sticking with 55% to Ohio State at this point. I believe he likes Matta as a coach better than Prosser.

to try and spin this in a negative way just to not get my hopes up, it could be construed that his comment that they are both "pretty even" followed by him saying that he would decide right after his osu visit, that conley has decided on wake (who was his outright leader for so long), and visiting osu is just a formality.

the only real kick in the groin is that osu is a great situation for oden, probably the best overall situation, but despite that, he will probably go where conley goes, which may no be osu.

tsteele....in my opinion...OSU basketball fans in general have not expected much from a recruiting stand point, that is changing. Its time to start realizing that we have a coach and a staff that will land some big time talents.

I think you personally do not want to be let down because you feel OSU doesn't really have a chance, I disagree 100%.

You are right about Wake being his leader for so long, but recently he has refused to name an outright leader, only saying that both teams are pretty much even on numerous occasions. If he felt that strongly about Wake, he would have not scheduled a visit to OSU and verbaled on his visit to Wake, its that simple. Distance is a factor here. Matta will close the deal on his visit in May.

Its time OSU basketball fans start to expect big time prospects looking our way because that is going to be the norm.

i most certainly think osu has a chance. i was merely trying to temper the optimism with what most wake fans are telling themselves right now so as to not break into mass hysteria. It may or may not be true, it's hard to say right now.

i think we'll get a better indication after he visits osu. if he says the same thing about both schools being basically even yadda yadda, then its anybody's guess, with the advantage going to wake IMO.

if he comes out and is much more enthusiastic about his osu visit, then wake is in trouble.

Too much is being put into "if we get Conley, we get Oden". If anything, I would say Conley goes where ODEN wants to go if they are in fact a package deal -- Oden has helped make Conley the highly recruited player he is, not the other way around. Many PG's would look awfully good with Oden in the middle.

The way I see it is... Oden will go where Conley goes. Conley will be the one going to college for the extended period of time, not Oden. Conleyw ill go where he feels most comfotable and Oden will follow. If Oden goes for a year or 2 he won't have to get as situatued into the program as Mike, who may be there for 3 to 4 years. Again, only my opinion, but it's justified.

Thats not true at all Conley punched his ticket long before Oden cracked the starting lineup on his AAU team.
Considering that Oden joined their team in 7th grade part-time, that is quite early to "have his ticket punched". Anybody who has watched them play in HS or AAU will tell you that the simple fact of having an Oden in the middle allows Conley to (1) be a much more aggressive perimeter defender, showcasing his quickness and (2) enhance his offensive skills by having very open looks at threes and (3) showing Conley's impressive open court skills. When you have a 7 footer run the court like Oden it can make things much easier.

Not to say Conley isn't a DI point guard - there is no question about that. I guess a better way to say what I am trying to say is this -- take Conley off their HS team, they probably win the state championship. Take Oden out, they don't win. He makes Conley and everyone else better just by being on the court.

They both make eachother better in my opinion, but the reality is that hardly ever does a "package deal" ever work. Their friendship is the reason they want to play together.
