STARTING FRESHMEN STRUGGLE ON OFFENSE
Holtmann started two true freshmen against Chaminade, as Bruce Thornton and Brice Sensabaugh got the nod in their first-ever exhibition games at Ohio State. In terms of efficiency on offense, though, both left something to be desired.

Despite finishing with a game-high 11 assists, Thornton shot just 1-for-7 from the floor and ended the night with two points in 26 minutes.

Eleven assists isn't "struggling on offense." He had a bad night shooting. Period.

This young man will be special for us.

BRUCE THORNTON
Thornton is the only true freshman with a starting role for the Buckeyes through two games, but he hasn’t matched the offensive success of Sensbaugh or Roddy Gayle early on. While Sensabaugh leads the Buckeyes in scoring and Gayle has been successful coming in off the bench to put up eight points per game, Thornton is averaging just 5.5 points and 3.0 assists per game in his first two games. Thornton should only get more comfortable as the season continues, but he certainly hasn’t hit a real groove thus far.

Bruce is looking like a potential great all-around floor general, the likes of which we've rarely seen at OSU. We've had great guards, but typically there is a weaker area for most of them. For Craft it was shooting, for Russell it was defense. Thornton is a young buck, but he might just be the rare type that doesn't have any real flaws to his game.

I'm loving what I'm seeing from Thornton so far. Really solid all around and should never come off the court except for a breather. With Thornton and Sensenbaugh, I love our future. Okpara will be good too with time.
